Zidane's real motive for the headbutt???
In my opinion ZZ felt that that match was slipping away and decided to get red carded out of fear of losing to Italy in the final...

Well, you have an offbeat sense of humor, anyway. If Italy had led by a couple of goals, or even by a goal with the ref about to blow the final whistle, maybe.

But with ten minutes left until the lottery of PKs, and with France playing every bit as well as Italy, Zidane wasn't thinking about giving up.

Tired and frustrated, yes. Historically short fuse when provoked, definitely. But there's not even a debate as to whether Materazzi said something or not. Materazzi admits that he said something offensive - we just don't know what.

Perhaps we'll know more after Materazzi's disciplinary hearing next Thursday.

I can't tell whether or not your response was jokingly made about Zidane or whether or not your serious.

Zidane would be scared of losing in the final? Are you implying that this was his thought:

"OK, hmm. It's 1-1. OK, my team has no chance against Italy (why would he think that, first off?) in PKs. What would be worse, losing, or getting a red card and getting tossed out of the game in which the game is TIED? Losing! So, yay, let me get myself kicked out of the game!"

Dude, that makes no sense. Zidane's motive for the headbutt was simply because he was provoked. Materazzi said something nasty in Zidane's opinion, and that caused him to react (stupidly).

Ok, that's it. We're going back to one heavily moderated thread on this topic.
