USMNT #1

If we started a fan based support group to bring MLS to ATL, what should we call it? A few suggestions:
Attack Pack
Fight and Fury
Any one else have any ideas?

"Bring MLS to Atlanta, Bitch"
:D lol
I think he means a proper support group like DC's Barra Brava. A number of ideas have been discussed before, but at this point we would need to focus on names that are independant of a potential team's name. Here are some suggestions that USMNT and I have discussed: Let us know your preference and suggest any ideas so we can get things rolling.
-New Southern Underground (obviously Southern, New Southern, New South, and all other prename variations should be considered.)
-Atlanta Underground
-Southern/New Southern Front (NSF)
-Southern Flank
-Guerrilla Syndicate (applies better for the Backs, but is still a neutral name)
Compile all suggestions and if we get enough response, we can set up a poll or something.

Thanks for the suggestion!
Come on, folks...any feedback? Let us know what you think or a name will be chosen without input from potential members.

I'm new to BS and new Atlanta transplant. Of the choices proposed so far, Southern Flank is my fav.
I don't understand what you're trying to do!

MLS Atlanta Soccer Supporters, Efficianados, and Strategists. I'll let you people figure out the initials. :)
In all seriousness, maybe like the Phoenix Society. Something with a little "gotta look that up" meaning, but not too much. Southern Soccer Front might be a good title. "SSF" has a nice ring. But we're NOT the Soccer Front of the South. Splitters!
I think a good time for all of this getting hardened would be in the fall after the US soccer seasons are done. My "free" time has pretty much been taken up by watching MLS games and going to see the Silverbacks. Once all that is over, I can probably do a little 'Net research and put some "just try and turn this shiznit down, MLS!" stuff on paper. We obviously can't do much ourselves about the stadium and an ownership group but we can do stuff like that to impress Garber and Co.

I'd like to see a fan group with "Southern" in it. you can change SSF to SSA(Southern Soccer Association), or SSO (Southern Soccer Organization), STS (Sports Team of the South or the Soccer Team of the South), etc...

"Southern" or "South" will definately be in it...but I like "New Southern" or New South"

Good ideas...Southern Phoenix Syndicate? New Southern Front?

Southern Soccer Front sounds good to me. I still think if "Phoenix" is in it that it will confuse a whole lotta people who don't know the difference between the Arizona city and the bird/Atlanta history.

Southern Hooligans!!!
this would be a good way to attract rowdy fans that would help spark the interest of MLS expansion to Atlanta. Also, you want to make sure other names aren't confusing and sound cartoony. The big problem with soccer in this country as that people don't see it as a man's sport, but hooligans are the one thing that soccer has that makes a good majority of Americans to think otherwise. Plus, it'd make people associate it with a party environment and people want to find any reason to party.
If you want another fan support group...fine. But, i really like "Southern Hooligans". It has the best chance of making random people from the South to say, "Man, I want to be a Southern Hooligan." Americans are well aware of soccer hooliganism, and they actually seem to be attracted to it instead of repelled by it like in Europe.

Let me make a pitch for "New Southern Front" Hopefully I can convince some of you ;)
Lets examine the straight up dictionary definition of "front"
---------------------
From Merrian-Webster Dictionary
http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=Front
Definiion of "front"...the ones that are particularly interesting:
2 a (1) : VANGUARD (2) : a line of battle (3) : a zone of conflict between
armies b (1) : a stand on an issue : POLICY (2) : an area of activity or
interest <progress on the educational front> (3) : ****a movement linking
divergent elements to achieve common objectives****; especially : a political
coalition
5 archaic : BEGINNING
6b : a position of leadership or superiority
7 a : a person, group, or thing used to mask the identity or true character or
activity of the actual controlling agent b : a person who serves as the
nominal head or spokesman of an enterprise or group to lend it prestige
- in front of : directly before or ahead of
- out front : in the audience
-----------------------
So here's why it would work, one definition of the word is "a movement linking
divergent elements to achieve common objectives." Obviously this definately
applies to our situation. Also it is a person or, in our our case, an
organization that "serves as the nominal head or spokesman of an enterprise or group to lend it prestige." AND....I didn't know this but the archaic meaning is "beginning" as in beginning of southern soccer dominance.
Wow....so it would apply to our movement as well as the obvious military "line
of battle" idea that I love for a supporter's group.
Ultimately, we could form this group now and lobby for an MLS team under its guises. We could also use the same name and logo for the group EVEN AFTER our goals are achieved and we have a team on account of the multiple meaning of the word! There will be continuity among the group and will not be a need to start from scratch to build a reputation among fans in the community...we will already be a known commodity in Atlanta.
This just makes so much sense...really think about it. If we put in all this
work to get out in the community wih this movement, promote it, lobby for it,
and build support as the New Southern Front, we will have
name recognition and a super-highway to growth once we finally do get a team and transform to strictly a supporter's group.
I like "New Southern" over "Southern because thats what we are...New. The South and Atlanta has changed greatly since last year, much less last decade or last century. Unfortunately, "Southern" often implies "redneck" to ignorant outsiders and "New Southern" would prevent that characterization and really emphasize the freshness of our mevement.

Well, the bad thing with that is Georgia fans would say what's wrong with the old Georgia.

I don't think so....saying "New South" doesn't imply anything is wrong with "South." Besides, the die hard Old South guard aren't soccer fans

Since hooliganism nearly ruined the game in Europe there is good reason why they are repelled by it.
