Cannavaro - played like a god and was the perfect gentleman throughout the World Cup. Legend is an understatement.

Re: The 'Fabio Cannavaro is LEGEND' Thread

I see no need for this thread because whoever doesn't know already, is just plain dumb :)

Cannavaro on his move to Real Madrid -

- Why did you decide to seek a new life/career in a foreign country? Was the decision driven by the attacks you received during the calcio scandal and the penalties Juve received?

Cannavaro: I spent several wonderful years at Juve so it was a tough decision to make. (after commenting on how rare an opportunity the Real offer was,) My choice to go to Madrid was also because there awaited “a new challenge”, something I love.

Cannavaro: (after mentioning how Tardelli supported their decisions to leave,) But to be honest with you, I couldn’t picture myself playing in Serie B, having declined an offer from Real Madrid.

- You had a strong bond with the Juve supporters…

Cannavaro: Yes. If there’s anyone who can complain to me for leaving, it’s the supporters. But what I hope they’d understand is that I’m not abandoning a sinking ship. It’s my innate passion as a football player that drives me (to make these decisions). There was no other way. That’s why I don’t feel guilty. Although this pain I’m feeling as a former member of Juve won’t disappear for a long time.

- You said earlier that you only have a few more years as a football player. Is that to say that Real Madrid will be the last stop for Cannavaro as a player?

Cannavaro: No, my hope to end my career wearing the Napoli uniform remains unchanged. Especially as Paolo’s back at Napoli this year. Napoli’s owner De Laurentis said to me that he’d be waiting after I finish my three-year contract at Real. My heart was flattered by his words. As a Neapolitan, there’s no bigger happiness than to return to my hometown and to finish my life as a football player in the team I began playing for. Madrid was an unexpected destination in my plans so far. I mean, I’d still be with Juve if things hadn’t turned out this way. But Napoli is still in my plans. If Napoli says they’ll be waiting for me when I turn 35, I’ll probably be wearing their uniform in three years time.

Souce: interview by Antonio Barilla, sports yeah magazine, issue 146

I like that he never afraid to speak his mind and show his passion and eagerness to win. And I think his move is actually good for Italy as he can maintain his sharpness by playing in a more competitive environment.

I saw some Juve fans on the Rai upset with both Cannavaro & Zambrotta and I understand why they are upset for going to Spain but in a way I really don't blame them. I mean if Juve gets promoted and they both avoid injury, the Serie A is still a year a way. That is a long time to miss out on important cups. Winning or getting promoted with Juve will not be worth as much as potential they could win with Real or Barca, respectively.

WhoEVER judges Cannavaro for his decision they're stupid.

He didnt leave Juve cuz he didnt like them, he left cuz a superstar like him SHOULD NOT playin sErie B!

Its an insult and a waste of good talent for a player like him who JUST WON THE WORLD CUP to play in a 2nd division league. Just not acceptable

I THOUGHT IT WAS PLAIN TO SEE

I agree. And I think that if Cannavaro was a few years younger, he might have made a different choice. But why spend the last of his prime in Serie B?

First Clip

notice in the 44th second of that first clip, when Canna is making life difficult for Zidane, Zidane is about to lose it there too -- LOL !

Thank God he made a career in football, because had he stayed on the slums of Marsielle and with that temper, he would have been in jail by now.

The O'Neill/Shearer Clip...

The most amazing thing to me is how high the praise is for Italy from those in the know around the world (people I consider actual experts on the subject - even when I disagree with them), and yet how ridiculously anti-Italy some of the posting is on this site. The one thing which has disappointed me most about this site is how many people come here and bash Italy. Just listen to the analysis and you'll understand what I'm talking about. We're know for some pretty high level football by conossieurs around the world. Sometimes I feel like I'm talking to people who have never played or watched high level football. I know I harp on this quite a bit, but I'm in my 30s and this is the first time I've heard Italy's defensive mastery, high level of play, and honor so doubted and questioned. So I really loved that particular clip. Grazie, couca.!:)

What I think is sad about Cannavaro is by the next Euro Cup, he will be 34/35 & by the next WC he will be 36/37. Unfortunately, unless he pulls a Franco Baresi(altho if anyone could really play, its Fabio), we really have no one to replace him and I don't see anyone on board either.

e dai. What do you expect ? Clearly the opinions of Alan Shearer & Martin O'Neill matter more than the opinions of tw@ts like "Beautiful Game 2010", "Zauras", "DragonKing".

These douchebags will be suffering for the next 4 years. Good.

You're more than welcome! :)

Even the haters can't say anything bad about Canna. He's intelligent and hard working. He plays the game gracefully and also have a simple life. And if you read an interview by Buffon I posted here earlier, you'll realise what a great captain he is, to pull together the team in the face of the scandal.

Oh, and he scored a beautiful goal today. Isn't it beautiful? :)

**Actually, one of the haters asked the brilliant question "Cannavaro: More hype than substance"???**

Are you sh!tting me??? Anyway, maybe I'm too sensitive about my nationality, living here in America now. Thanks for the support, guys!

Absolutely! And I loved the interview with Buffon as well. And I agree with Pabs as well as always. Cannavaro is class. Italia is class. Thank you guys and Forza Italia!;)

When Canna was younger, I never expected him to be this good, this commanding and intelligent. So maybe one of our young defenders out there will do the same. Remember, after Scirea there was Baresi, after him Maldini, Now Canna and Nesta. It's one thing I won't lose any sleep over myself. We always manage to create a superhuman captain of the defense...
