Yeah, and if memory serves me right, I think it was Stefan G'Varch (I know, my spelling is way off). I remember Pagliuca came rushing up to the referee shouting, "E un cartelino rosso!"....Stephane Guivarc'h was joke. It wouldn't have made a difference for France if he had got a red card because the Frenchies were technically playing with 10 men.

If Canna can create miracle for Real Madrid's trainwreck defence, then he is a GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!He is Fabio so why not? He can handle their defence single-handedly. What do Sergio Ramos, Roberto Carlos, Cicinho and Ivan Helguera know about defending? Fabio will send them to school.

Is that hte video of Fabio being injected with some kind of IV fluid looking bag? I've never heard of it or seen it until I did a search on him on YouTube and saw that video. It happened the night before the UEFA Cup Final vs. Marseille when he was on Parma. Does anyone know what he was injected with and if it was proven to be legal? I'd hate for someone to come out of the woodwork and claim that Fabio is doping and that's why he's so good. We all know this guy is the best for a reason: talent, heart, class, and desire. NOT DRUGS!

I don't believe in a second he was doing drug or sth but I kinda like that video. It's so funny and they all looked so happy.

Damn, I shouldn't have dropped my Italian course.

Since when a whole team need injections before playing a football game ?

Whatever the players or the teams, it's weird…

For me though, the moment that will forever be etched in my mind is the 2nd goal vs Germany. Ball is served into the area 120' mark, Cannavaro once again positions himself perfectly to clear the ball which pops up towards Podolski 30 yards form goal. Cannavaro dashes at top speed, times the steal perfectly

We saw him make that run and looked at eachother and said: No way is he going to get that. Impossible. But he got it. Intercepted the ball twice, in about 5 seconds, over 20 something meters. Unbelievable, brilliant, call it what you will. For me it was just more proof that defending can be as beautiful as attacking play. Moment of the World Cup for me. I also loved his tackle on Henry from behind but just slightly enough from the side while tracking back at full speed after a corner. It got nothing but ball, and Henry didn't know what hit him. Watched the final in his (parma) jersey, as did a friend of mine, who watched it in my azzuri one. I regret to say that I'll probably never see him play live.

So why did Veron admit they always do it? They always take Neoton when they have games every three days.

Have you seen Sergio Ramos play his natural right back position?Woodgate when fit is possibly the best English defender.

Hey guys, I am a huge Cannavaro fan have known who he was since 98 but rediscovered him when he started playing fo JUventus. I am glad that I have found a place where people are just as passionate about discussing him as I am. All my friend can say is that he is hot, but there is more to him, things I can discuss here. I am new at this homepage and if there are any lovely italiens there that want to teach me more about your beautiful country don't hesitate...
Thank you! see ya...

Ramos at RB though is probably one of the most promising RB´s there is.

Why would that be so impossible, I am determined to see him play...;)

It seems like pretty confirmed that Canna will be joining Real Madrid, right? This might hurt Juventus fans, but this would be a better move for his career and also for the benefit of the Italian team.

The only thing I’m worry about is that Real Madrid can totally DESTROY any best defender in the world. And I’m not sure even Canna can create a miracle for RM’s defense line. The best move for him would be joining Barcelona, but this seems like in remote chance.

I agree with you, I hate Real MAdric because of the simple reason that they do seem to screw up people's carrers...I am afraid that they might do that to Fabio too....let's hope not...

Funds, or lack thereof. Plus, my loyalty to a certain Catalan club and love for a certain club from Milan mean that if the abovementioned funds do become available, they will most likely be invested in a return to Barcelona or a first-time visit to San Siro.

Although I would love to see the Bernabéu some time, it would feel like infidelity.

I did see Maldini play once, alongside Costacurta, and that is probably my fondest live-football memory

Golden Ball

the funniest part is reading comments of how "I can't see how you can't give the Golden Ball to anybody but Zidane" and the like. LOL !! What games are you people watching ?

without exaggerating, I let out a wry smile when I read these comments of this sort. Forget the headbutt for a second, but Zidane got suspended in France's 3rd game because of an accumulation of yellow cards. He also looked very week in the Portugal game as the Portugese dominated this game. What did he do this WC ? Score goals from French dive ? (Henry twice and Malouda in the final) He scored the 3rd goal against Spain, when the game was already out of reach and a tired Spain team were pressing.

The only game that Zidane DOMINATED was in the Brazil game. No problems admitting that. Though Brazil seem to make it a habit of conceding too much space to Zidane in their games against them.

At the end of their broadcast of the WC, ABC put together a compilation of great plays throughout the WC and in it they pasted together 2 clips of Zidane taken in 2 different games ! and made it look like he had this amazing run and then finished it off by a goal

No wonder all these sheep are at home ohh'ing and ahh'ing about Zidane.

The press really ran with Zidane's retirement and really wanted a feel-good story at all costs.

Truth of the matter is, both Fabio Cannavaro and Andrea Pirlo had better WC's than Zidane. Pirlo was awarded MOM honours by FIFA in 3 out of 7 games.

as far as discipline, the Algerian Zidane, who plays 60M from his own net, got 3 yellows & 1 red. Cannavaro got 0 yellows and 0 red.

For me, Cannavaro should be Golden Ball Winner, Pirlo Silver (not Bronze), maybe Miro Klose for Bronze Ball.

But let the bleeding-hearts sell another newspaper by giving the undisciplined Algerian the Golden Ball.

The thing which amazed me the most this World Cup was Cannavaro's perfect timing on so many "interventions". Over and over again on big play after big play he poked, tapped, heeled, bicycled and tackled the ball away from an attacker. Truly amazing stuff, even for those of us who have been watching and admiring great Italian defenders for a lifetime. As great as Maldini and Baresi and Scirea and others were, Canna did this with a lot less help this Cup. And he came through like a champion.

Fabio sei grande!!!

I think Alessandro Magno Nesta is way better than him!

I think Alessandro Magno Nesta is way better than him!

Nesta is more about "anticipation" and is definitely more graceful, whereas Canna rely's more on his physical attributes (strong, fast, jumps high for a pretty short player).

both compliment each other very well.

<sarcasm on> But Lucas Neill.... There's a defender to behold. Whereas most regular defenders would have steered their opponent to the endline, Neill showed his class and composure by going to ground <sarcasm off>
