Who would we target as a replacement if Metzelder does leave?

Well, they've signed a promising young defender by the name of Martin Amedick, who has come from TSV Eintracht Braunschweig, who was highly rated in the Zwei Bundesliga.
If you had spoken maybe 2 months ago, I'd say they'd be in for Josip Simunic, our Big Center Back, but now that he's signed a 5 year contract, that won't be happening.
I think perhaps other targets that could be feasible for next year could be Petri Pasanen of Werder Bremen, Manuel Friedrich of Mainz domestically.

Right now, I think they would go with that sorry f#cker Brzenska!
The only way we'd get money for a decent defender would be to sell Metze and Smolarek.
And even then, what "decent" defenders are available??

Hey guys, I just wanted to know how you guys rate Cedric van der Gun who has just recently joined our side. Why did he see so little action at Dortmund? Any info would be appreciated.

He saw so little action because he suffered a serious knee injury not long after joining us.
Before he got hurt, he was just starting to show some nice potential. He also played well in our final match of last season against Bayern.

Not quite ready yet.

Overrated.

BvM would more than likely go with Brzenska or Amedick. If not, I think he'd raid Holland again.
Bremen just ripped us on the Valdez deal, so I hope they wouldn't go back that way for a player. I don't think we could afford Friedrich.

As promised to "Russ99"
Footyfan: (hijack alert!) I've always liked Borussia Dortmund (they're playing well this year so far!) even though they've crushed my beloved 1860 back when we were in the Buli, and my take is that BVB's problems had a lot more to do with the consequences of floating the team on the market than anything else. Then again, I wouldn't otherwise have seen the offensive wonders of Rosicky, Ewerthon, Koller and Amoroso.
I have to say you’re wrong about the flotation. Actually, that was one of the best things that happened to the club. By a quite a few accounts, what destroyed the club was a club president drunk on his absolute power.
The man, Dr. Gerd Niebaum, knew NOTHING about football and was arrogant enough to think that he could continue to win simply by overpaying for big “names.” He also seemed to forget that it is football that drives the train at Borussia Dortmund and he wasted huge sums of money trying to turn BVB into a diversified company instead of simply keeping it a successful football club.
He ruined BVB. Not the stock market flotation.
You say that we’ve crushed 1860 back in the Bundesliga? Yeah, for the most part that was true. But I can remember sitting in a cold, dreary, mostly empty Münchner Olympiastadion back in the winter of the 1996-1997 season (I believe) watching 1860 crush BVB by a score of 4-2. I say “crush” because if I remember properly, it was 4-0 before BVB got on the scoreboard.
There’s one thing I’ll never forget about that match. At one point, BVB were coming back up the pitch from one of their many squandered goal attacks that day. Andy Möller was screaming at Knut Reinhardt about something and I was so pissed off, I stood up and started screaming, “Shut the f#ck up! He did his job, your f#cking ass should have taken the goddamned ball in yourself you lousy mother f#cker!” Or something to that extent. I was so angry, I’m not sure I remember it all.
What I didn’t realize through my anger was that the stadium was so empty and I’m so damned loud (I am a former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant) the players could actually hear me.
Möller and Reinhardt both looked up at where I was shouting (There was no one around my little group in the “Gegentribune”) and I continued on with something like “Show some pride out there you sons of bitches! Give some f#cking effort!”
I don’t think Möller understood a word I said except maybe the cursing, but I’ll tell you this much:
Andy Möller didn’t bitch at anyone else that day…… ;)
BTW: Who's BVB's new sponsor?!? That's such a freaky logo after so many years with "e-on". It almost looks like a design element of the jersey. Pretty cool.
The new sponsor is actually a Westfalen conglomerate currently called R-A-G. However, they are in the process of creating a new logo. That symbol on the BVB shirts is a design by a known local artist named Ottmar Alt. It will only be on the shirts until R-AG unveils their new logo.
I hated that symbol until I saw it at the Westfalenstadion independent of the shirts. It’s not bad by itself, but I don’t like it on that green background on our shirts.

Great story! Yeah, that Olympiastadion was WAY too big for 1860. I went to a few games there in 2000 and 2001 and they could barely fill half the place! It was great to see Max & Häßler play together for Die Löwen. A high point for me, so far.
Too bad about that president running BVB down so much in a mad grab for overpriced players, it seems that it happens a lot in German football. Everyone wants to be Bayern but forgets it took Bayern many years to get to their high point. I was most annoyed that BVB sold some of their stars out of desperation, and got nowhere near what they paid for them.
While I like the new logo, it's nowhere near as sharp as the old black/gold stripes with a red "e-on", that was really cool.
I hope R-AG doesen't put the letters "RAG" on the BVB shirts. In slang English that has a quite different meaning. The funniest instance of this is I think a few years ago a 2. Liga team had shirts sponsored by a company with a logo as the letters "F A G". :p

It really depended on the opponent. However, that day, as you said originally, BVB had beaten up on 1860 so much that the fans just stayed away.

Despite what the press told you, most of those sales were not made "out of desparation." In most cases, management just didn't know what the f#ck they were doing.

I liked the old "e-on" too, but they moved on. Nothing we could do about that. I still hate this new logo. I hope the new R-A-G logo doesn't clash that much with the rest of the shirt.
My favorite logo on a BVB shirt was the old "C" for "Die Continentale." Perhaps because that's the logo linked to my fondest BVB memories.
I hope R-AG doesen't put the letters "RAG" on the BVB shirts. In slang English that has a quite different meaning.
I'm American. I know. When I first heard they bought the shirt sponsorship, I made all kinds of jokes........ :D

That was 1. FC Schweinfurt. One of the teams I used as an example of why a playoff from the lower leagues into the higher ones would be a good thing.

Really, there's been some interesting signings in the BL this season. Sorin to HSV. Frei to BVB. Diego to Werder. Mark van Bommel to Bayern. These are all excellent players, and will make the BL even more fun to watch.
Man, from what I saw this past weekend, as a BVB fan, we're going to have more fun watching Tinga than watching Frei! LOL!! :D

Well, it looks like as usual, "jonam" was right on. I just read a report from Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) that says BvM will only stay on until the end of the season.
It is widely speculated that Bielefeld's coach Thomas von Heesen will take over at the Westfalenstadion.
They think Managing Director Hans-Joachim Watzke will say something after the match against Wolfsburg today.

I totally agree. Good to see you back here again too. We need all the BVB fans we can get here.
I was hoping BvM would go now and maybe Kohler or Herrlich would take over. To me, this just confirms they are waiting on von Heesen.
I still believe BvM is the best trainer we have had since Hitzfeld. I blame the team for this.

Yeah, absolutely agree. Decisions need to be made NOW! This won't work out for another 6 months. :-/

I try to be here more regularly. What are your favourite candidates now? My choice would be Hans Meier but that's a bit unrealistic. ;) I could live with Thomas von Heesen though.

I wish we'd hire Kohler as an interim trainer until von Heesen comes on board, but, from watching the beginning of "Doppelpass" today, I think Juergen is interested in the HSV job.......
I wasn't able to keep watching until they started to discuss BVB. Did anyone else here see it??

van Heesen seems to be a young decent manager(well he's been around for a bit but he's still just 45). Bielefeld have done pretty well with him. However, he played some 13-14 years with HSV, I think HSV might think about getting him.

Didn't he say that it would be inadmissible for him to go to HSV because of his friend Thomas Doll - especially if they fire Doll?
