I still don't like Valdez. He was my absolute "concentrated hate" player in Bremen. And now he's a player of my favourite club. :(
I don't like his attitude. He plays for himself and not for BVB. He's too selfish as a character and as a football player and imo he's a Chancentod ;)
What if he plays bad and must sit on the bench? Will he do the same shit he did in Bremen?
Get over it.

@ Frei: He scored a debatable goal against Korea, and nothing else (scoring wise)...He's there in Dortmund to score goals, effort is one thing (Nando Rafael gave a lot of EFFORT but he couldn't do jack for us in front of goal), but he needs to score. I think he will though, don't worry. I've got him scoring 15-20 too and in the top 5 in the scoring charts.
Frei scored two goals. One against Togo and another against Korea. And then he hit the bar against Ukraine.

Ah, only recall the controversial goal against Korea. My apologies.

If he scores 15 goals, I'll gladly get over it. ;)

Don't know that he'll do that, but I will say I understand where you are coming from.
Back when we acquired Fredi Bobic, I HATED the guy. He came to Dortmund and changed my mind about him. Worked his ass off for the team and the club.
That's why I hated it when Sammer just shoved him aside when we paid way too much for Jan Koller.
You wrote about Valdez being a "chancentod"? (I think you were kidding a bit though)
Tell me one you've seen in a BVB uniform who's more of one than Jan Koller was!
That guy scored goals mainly when we didn't need them. When we needed him to score, he found spectactular ways of missing the net.
You can go back to each season before this last one we either barely missed the CL or UEFA Cup and see where 100% goal chance misses from Koller alone cost us the points we needed to make those competitions.
And Smolarek seemed to catch Koller's disease at the end of last season. I believe this is why we needed completely "new blood" at the striker position! LOL!! :)

Vrzogic has an injury btw - back in 3 weeks.
I did the translation on the first day of training camp for the official site (www.borussia-dortmund.de). The story should be up already and it includes Vrzogic's injury.

Bad, bad news. Roman Weidenfeller is still having problems with his knee and may be out for awhile.
We don't know. Could be days, could be weeks, could be months. We are awaiting word.
I think BVB will hit the market for a new backup keeper. The only person we have besides amateur team keeper Pirson is veteran crap keeper Bernd Meier.
I'm hoping BVB will try to work a deal to bring back Dennis Gentenaar from Ajax. We play Ajax in a friendly this coming Saturday and Gentenaar is their backup right now.
I hope some of the other guys here post more as they will probably see it before I will.
This news knocked me out of my chair today.......

Same with me, but gladly Weidenfeller said today that everything's ok and he will join team training tomorrow.

Good. They shouldn't f#cking scare us like that.
I'd still talk to Gentenaar if I were BVB management.
With knees and BVB, you just never know........

I think a backup keeper is always a good thing to have around.

I don't trust Bernd Meier either. What about the other young goalkeepers, Pirson and Samulewicz? Anybody seen them playing regularly?

I fear that it may be to late to sign a new good number 2. We must hope that Pirson can step in if needed. Other than that we should keep an eye on some goalies and buy one in winter or next summer.

You may be right on there. As you said on the list, there's not much of a chance Ajax would be willing to loan us Gentenaar. But as I said there, it can't hurt to ask. All they can do is say "No".
Most keepers even close to "available" now are either retired (ex-FCK keeper Thomas Ernst), older and #3 at a club (Stuttgart's Dirk Heinen), or rousted out of other clubs because of either poor performance or personal problems (ex-FCN & Gladbach keeper Darius Kampa).
The thing is, I'd trust just about any of them above Bernd Meier. I've never thought that guy was a good keeper at any time in his career........ :(

How are the keepers in the BVB reserves/youth side? Admittedly I don't know much about them. But often its easier than convincing another keeper to move to the club solely as a backup.

In this case, we aren't looking for "easier", we're looking for the best solution in case Weidenfeller goes down for awhile.
That might be Soren Pirson, our amateur keeper, but admittedly, like you, I don't know anything about him.
Also, as far as looking at another keeper, we were talking about backups at other clubs. We know we can't get someone who's starting to come to BVB and be a backup.
However, with Weidenfeller's knee, our backup stands a better chance of seeing action than most backups in the Bundesliga.
I don't know how BvM feels, but a few of us fans have no confidence whatsoever in Borussia's current #2, Bernd Meier.
This guy has gotten his ass kicked at his two 1. Liga clubs and according to one of our e-mail list members, he's been HORRIBLE this training camp.
I think we got him when we did because we needed a "body" and he was cheap. Free as I recall.
If we're really serious about getting into Europe, I think we need to get a better backup. One who instills confidence, not doubt.

I was hoping you or "jonam" had seen them play! LOL!! :D
I'm planning to get to a few of the "B" team's matches this season. That is, whenever they are at home the same weekend as the "A" team.

I had seen them playing but that's not enough for me to rate a goalkeeper. I concentrated more on potential strikers everytime I went to Amateur or youth matches which wasn't often the case last season. I usually see some of our boys playing (Tyrala, Vrzogic, Amachaibou e.g.) when I go to U-whatever matches of the national team.

Gotcha. It's just that one of the guys on our list says that Meier has been so bad that some fans were already calling for Pirson to be made #2.
My lack of confidence in Meier comes from remembering how freakin' AWFUL he was at 1860 and Gladbach.
He lost both 1. Liga jobs he ever had and I've seen nothing to make me believe he got better in the 2. Liga....... :o

hmm...if he is THAT bad, I'm sure that Bert will know what to do - give the youngsters a chance. On the other hand, I hope that we won't have to discuss that since Weidenfeller's injury doesn't seem to be that serious.

Yes, I agree, but I hope this scare raises awareness in management. Unless they have more confidence in Meier than we do, I'd be looking for a better backup before the transfer window closes.
And to paraphrase something the same person on our list said, if Weidenfeller had the surgery back in March and he's still having problems with the knee, can we be fully confident he'll last through the season?
Honestly, I don't think we can be. I'd just rather be safe than sorry........
