And BTW, you don't need to belittle the thoughts of fans who might not be able to have the chance to see BVB v. Spurs or BVB v. anyone like we get to.
We've got people on our list who would think that match is going to be "amazing" too.
If they don't get to see these matches on a regular basis, it just might be "amazing" to them.......
Understand where they are coming from, don't belittle them. OK?? :)

Of course. I think we can challenge BayScum, but I think they are still ahead of us.
If it was just them, no problem, but I don't think we're going to be as good as Bremen or HSV either.
I think we're about the same level as Scheisse or Bayer 04 and perhaps just ahead of Hertha and Stuttgart now.

So what are your expectations for the year guys?? a UEFA Cup spot? Higher?
And how is the injury situation/depth for the team this season?

I think we can finish anywhere from third to sixth. I think Bayern and Bremen will battle for the title and I think Bremen wins it.
I can't pinpoint a place we will finish now. Talk to me after the weekend of August 5th.
And even then, it will depend on what happens with the likes of HSV, Scheisse, Bayer 04. A lot will depend on whether Metzelder stays too.
I think HSV are going to miss Barbarez' leadership on the pitch more than people understand.
I think we are ahead of Hertha and Stuttgart now and even if we sell Metzelder.

Pretty good right now. No major injuries. Valdez came back from holiday with a torn muscle, but he should be good as new in about another week and a half. Other than that, we've got everyone who is still on the roster that was hurt last season back healthy again and some new, young names pushing to make their mark.
I think some of them will be surprising.......

First, thanks for the update Keith.
I, myself, at the moment have Bremen winning the league. I would also like to see how Bremen and especially HSV react to the CL. Hope they both do well. Schalke, Bayer and Hertha always seem to be a couple players short of going further....or they just collapse at the end for some reason.
I somewhat agree with HSV. They could be in the top three, but for some reason, I can see them folding late in the season. However, it does look like there will be some actual real competition for the title. Not trying to be arrogant with that, as I would just like to get excited by it again. :o
Metzelder thinking about leaving??? That would suck, would it not?

Again...good to hear. I take it you are pretty damn pleased with Van Marwijk?

No prob. :)

Scheisse always collapse because since the 50's, that's been their MO. They are the pre-2004 Boston Red Sox of the Bundesliga. You don't worry about if they'll win it, but rather how they will blow it! LOL!!
Bayer? I don't know what to say for them. If they didn't win it in 2002, I think they will never win it. And now, they are without their best striker. But they finally have a leader in Barbarez. Too bad he's at the end of his career. I think Stefan Kiessling is still overrated, but if any coach besides van Marwijk can get something out of him, it's Skibbe.
Hertha? Can you say "TITANIC?" It's sad to see. They remind me of where BVB was in 2003-2004. Complete with the want-away Brazilian diva........
I somewhat agree with HSV. They could be in the top three, but for some reason, I can see them folding late in the season. However, it does look like there will be some actual real competition for the title. Not trying to be arrogant with that, as I would just like to get excited by it again. :o
HSV: I think they will start out like gangbusters and peter out at the end. Especially if vdV can't stay healthy. I think they have no true leadership with the losses of Barbarez and van Buyten. Kompany will do a nice job for them in the center, but he won't be able to replace that leadership van Buyten brought to the team.
I know you aren't being arrogant with the title talk. I'm feeling you.
Just know that what I'm about to say next isn't from any "Bayern Hatred". It's my true feelings.
Honestly, at Bayern, I think you guys are going to fight the old "FC Hollywood" thing again. A new guy just comes off the boat (van Buyten) and Felix gives him the keys to the ship. That's bound to make some players unhappy.
I'm sure Makaay isn't happy about all this RvN talk either. And I can tell you from seeing it happen before, when this stuff does blow at Bayern, Magath is clueless at handling it. The thing is, Bayern is so much head and shoulders above everyone else, that even with the difficulties, they should still finish second.
Metzelder thinking about leaving??? That would suck, would it not?
It would suck, but it wouldn't be a devastating blow. There's a chance it could happen. BVB CEO Watzke made it known that if Metzelder doesn't extend with the club during the first half of the season, he will be sold. Metzelder is still, in my opinion, rightfully pissed off at BvM for continuing to play youngster Markus Brzenska ahead of him last season even after Brzenska's play tailed off considerably.
I think Metzelder wants assurances he won't be treated that unfairly again.
I take it you are pretty damn pleased with Van Marwijk?
More pleased than I ever thought I could be with a BVB coach not named Hitzfeld. When BvM first came in, I was happy because Sammer was gone. When others were impatient with BvM at the start, I was the one who called for calm and understanding. The man had so much to repair and re-build. Some on our list were calling for his head at mid-season. Now, he's the most popular BVB trainer since Hitzfeld and honestly, that in itself is a wonderous accomplishment for a Dutchman in Germany!
I think BvM is the second-best "all around" coach in the Bundesliga after Bremen's Thomas Schaaf. When I say "all around" I mean a coach who is excellent with tactics, teaching, player relations, etc. I think BvM and Schaaf are head and shoulders above the rest in Germany.

OK. Maybe I'm taking it too seriously, but when you put a "that would be amazing" after what you said with a "tongue out" symbol, to me, that took away any notion that you were kidding.
My apologies for misreading your intent.

That''s what I was thinking as well, though I do have to say I have been impressed with Doll's work with them. Again...let's see what kind of toll the CL will take on them.

Could happen, and I also don't see Felix as a "Hitzfeld" in getting the team focused if it should deteriorate like that. Overall, I don't mind Felix and I AM NOT like some fans, who seem to absolutely hate the guy.....hate to say it, but it is kind of "Drama Queen" like. Two doubles is pretty damn good, even if the quality of the league is not up to par. I guess those fans only care about the CL
Yeah, not sure what is up with that Ruud talk, kind of bewildering, especially with Roy.
Sorry, don't mean to turn this into a Bayern discussion. :o
Sincerely, hope you guys have a good season.

They are still trying to find another striker for that very purpose. I would laugh if they wind up overpaying Kaiserslautern for Boubcar Sanogo! LOL! :D

Those fans are the ones who think Bayern are better than they actually are or "rightfully" deserve to be on top. In other words, they are the Bayern fans I can't stand. I think it's pretty f#cking good when a "down year" for your club is second place.
And you hit the nail on the head with the "Quality of the league" comment. However, as I've said over and over, Bayern is partially responsible for the weakness of the league too. The use the league as a feeding system to keep themselves on top of it. In the past, that was good enough to contend for Europe. What those other fans don't seem to realize is that being the best in the Bundesliga just isn't saying much anymore when you are looking at all of Europe.
The other "big" leagues have surpassed the Bundesliga in level of play. Some people just can't seem to grasp that notion.
Yeah, not sure what is up with that Ruud talk, kind of bewildering, especially with Roy.
It's just Bayern being Bayern. That's what they do. I don't think Bayern has a snowball's chance in hell of getting RvN.
I think he's ticketed for Real Madrid to replace Ronaldo, who will probably have his fat a$$ sold back to Inter.
However, if that miracle does happen, how about tossing Pizarro our way??! :D
Sorry, don't mean to turn this into a Bayern discussion. :o
Sincerely, hope you guys have a good season.
I brought up Bayern in the larger context. You didn't. It's a Bundesliga discussion. Besides, I managed to get BVB in there, didn't I?? ;)

here here! CL is nice, but it is gravy in my eyes. Besides, most of those CL games can be quite a bore to watch. :p

I just don't get their transfer policies sometimes. Though, a lot of big teams buy players from smaller teams...that's the name of the game. What I don't get, is that Bayern is pretty good with their youth development: Hargreaves, Piggy, Lahm, Trochowski, etc...why spend big money on a Van Buyton, when there were probably younger and cheaper options?

Agreed...and it takes the Italy scandal to prop up our European coefficiency.:o

I really hope we don't have that snowball chance in hell. I would rather have one or two new midfielders. However, since we dumped Guerrero, we need another forward as I expect Santa Cruz to be injured for more than 75% of the season. :p ...So, no, I still like Pizza and we will need him. :o

Because bringing up one of your own prospects doesn't weaken HSV at the same time. You guys think I'm just spewing venom when I tell you that part of Bayern's transfer policies are meant to keep them on top of the Bundesliga by systematically weakening their closest competition.
Believe me, if Klose had not already said he would never play for FC Bayern, they'd be after him too.......

Damn. I thought it was worth a try. After all, Bayern only ever bought Pizarro to keep him out of Dortmund. That one really killed us.
How many forwards does Dortmund have?
According to the new "kicker" pre-season issue we have eight.
Matthew Amoah, 25, Ghana (0 goals in eight matches for us last season)
Delron Buckley, 29, South Africa (0 goals in 28 matches for us last season)
David Odonkor, 22, Germany, (2 goals in 33 matches for us last season)
Ebi Smolarek, 25, Poland, (13 goals in 34 matches for us last season, but only two in the last 21 matches)
Kosi Saka, 20, Congo (0 goals in 5 matches last season.)
Abdenour Amachaibou, 19, Morocco/Germany, from our youth team.
And our great hopes.
Nelson Valdez, 22, Paraguay (9 goals in 30 appearances for Bremen last season)
Alexander Frei, 27, Switzerland
They show Sebastian Tyrala as a midfielder, but I think we'll be playing him up front. Tyrala is 18 and Germany. From our youth team, but was on last season's professional roster. Out all last season with knee injuries.

They wanted Klose when he first hit big with FCK. Klose then made it known that he would never play for FC Bayern. After that was when they pretty much did a "Well, we didn't really want you anyway......."
I wanted BVB to go for Klose when he first hit big too, but that was when all of our wasted money was starting to come home to roost.

Bert tested him as a midfielder in the last match though. He's variable and I say he is our biggest talent! :)
