Yeah, it's too early to make predictions but since we'll be bored till the WCQs start, who do you think are the favorites to win the World Cup in South Africa, based on possible lineups and the state of football by the time?

True, it's WAY too early. But right now I'd say Germany. Mostly because I'm German of course, but also because they played very well this year and the young squad hasn't even reached its peak yet. There are still plenty of players that can get even better, like Lahm, Podolski, Huth, Odonkor, Mertesacker, Schweinsteiger and Borowski. Ballack and Klose will both be in their thirties but still not too old. Hinkel will hopefully find to his old self again, now that he can gain experience in Spain. Plus there are some young talents that are on the right path to the first team like Trochowski, Manuel Friedrich and Kießling. Also, hopefully Deisler will finally stay healthy and we also have players like Lauth and Görlitz that were very promising talents but didn't fully recover from long term injuries and have yet to prove that they're worthy. I'd say we have a bright future

I was going to vote Brasil, but changed my vote to Argentina. They showed more in Deutschland!

I'm also betting the finals are in South Africa - but I'm not giving odds yet!

I know we say this every ********ing time there's a major competition but what about .... Spain.....

They've got a good young team and will be more experienced next time around. Maybe if they can get a little bit of luck this time then they can do something. It's hard to see beyond Brazil for this particular competition. They are the only side to win a world cup held outside of Europe or South America. Having won all 4 - (Mexico twice, USA and Korea/Japan). Also all five of their world cups have been won outside of South America. In order for someone else to win the world cup - they will have to break away from tradition.

Won't be a European team. No Euro team has ever won a World Cup that wasn't in Europe.

Except Italy in 1930s, the WC winners are alternate between Europea and South Africa.

BTW, does Holland get fan support in South Africa?

I will make two predictions

1. An African team (be it SA, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, etC)
will appear in the final four

2. Brazil or Argentina will win it

France.

Don't forget they have a lot of support in many african teams. They'll be playing at home.
