Can someone verify this for me. I used to play fifa 99 with a passion and i can vaguely recall there being a diving button. As a matter of fact i can actually remember using it with some effectivness, and sometimes just falling on my face when no one was around just for kicks. Am i hallucinating or did fifa allow people to use diving as an everyday tatic in one of there licensed video games??

it's not like FIFA reviewed the game and made sure it met their standards before EA released it. In the current (and all) FIFA games you can go around and viciously tackle from behind with some major legbreaking tackles. Did fifa allow people to use dangerous tackles from behind as an everyday tactic in one of [sic] there licensed video games??

Of course not. FIFA had nothing to do with it. EA made the game and licenced the right to use FIFA properties in the game. That's it.

While I agree with you that fifa probably had nothing to do with it, it's just interesting they would incorporate blantant cheating into a video game. As far as dangerous tackles goes, thats an absurd comparison. There is no 'leg breaking' button that guarentees you injure someone, just a slide tackle button. You can choose to tackle from behind but thats not the intention of the button. The diving button is like having a spitting in the face button, or poke a dude in the eye button. Its dirty play and ridiculous and i do believe fifa does have some say on something they put their name on.

I agree that the comparison isn't fair. But up until FIFA 2002 (I think) you could slide tackle the GK when he was just standing there with the ball in his hands. That would earn you a red. That doesn't make much sense, either, but it took some time before FIFA made it impossible to do this. Point is, FIFA doesn't necessarily oversee every aspect of the Game in a game. They're probably about as effective at this as they are at overseeing real-life football.

I don't remember if FIFA 99 had this feature for all its games or not (I was playing N64 at that time, and I don't recall a "dive" function), but I do know there was one on This is Football (also known as World Tour Soccer) 2002. You got the call in your favor about 40% of the time, too. What's more, the CPU would dive as well, and they'd get the calls sometimes.

tap top-c twice in 99

tap right-c twice in RTTWC 98

actually, the fifa series on N64, if you pressed top-c, it was either a tackle with a raised leg or a push, which would often injure players, and when called , get you a red.

Nothing beat the "shove" feature from the old FIFA games on Genesis (B+C)...turn off fouls and enjoy the carnage.

There was also a dive feature in ISS64 where you hit all the yellow buttons at once. It was a bitch to do, though, as you had to wobble a little before you could press the buttons. I tried it twice and got carded once.

You could not only dive on FIFA 99 (I used it all the time to get free kicks and penalties), but you could also do "hard" fouls that would quite often injure the fouled player.
I had forgotten about those aspects as well as being able to slide tackle the keeper. Good times!

Yeah, sliding the goalie was great. I used to do it a lot, reds were fun. The Q slide with the raised leg caused too many injuries though.

Anyone remember in FIFA WC France 98 when you would score on a goalie, sometimes the camera would zoom in on him, and he would drop kick the camera, making it fall to the ground?

That was one of the last good FIFA's :(

I remember that! But I got the impression that you were supposed to think a photographer had gotten too close to the GK and was kicked himself, so the camera went into the air. The first time I saw it, I had just scored on Colombia, and the closeup of Mondragon about to swing just before the "camera" image of sky and stars cracked me up!

Yep. LOL

Man i wish they still made games like that, I remember playing Iran and everytime you scored on them no matter what the goalie would knock out the camera man. LOL

I also remember how in RTOTWC 98 for 64 most of my slide tackles would cause guys to be injured. LOL I was damn good at taking people out, it would cause havoc on my buddies stacked real madrid squad.

Anyone remember how if you keep a player in thats injured on RTOTWC 98 he would walk around limp yet still be able to pass? LOL

YES! :D

Those were good days, I remember I used to hate when my best player got injured, I just kept him in either way, he would just limp around and could only shoot and pass well.

Man RTWC 98 was the shit. I loved how it had pretty much every nation in it, like you could win the world cup with Cook Islands if you wanted.
