United run rampant on Scotland's Celtic

D.C. United welcomed another high-profile European club to the nation's capital on a wet, sultry night at RFK Stadium on Wednesday, but the Black-and-Red were hardly generous hosts as they dismantled a Celtic FC 4-0 in a comprehensive performance from start to finish.

Now that was a fun read :D
I ran into the page not found problem too. Just went to the Herald's left nav bar and clicked on sports. The story's link is there.

The article seemed more like a list of excuses and jabs at soccer in the USA than a match report..;)

The Washington Nationals can regularly pack in 57,000 for fixtures; a good 40,000 more than would bother with the local soccer side, despite their exceptional form in the MLS.
hahaha

Another from abroad which is more an editorial than a match report:

The defence was left clueless and rudderless as the American side tore them apart with consummate ease, and it could have been worse - much worse.

The statement about the Ex-Expos "regularly drawing 57,000" was pretty funny.

* Celtic - 58,149
* Rangers - 49,245
* Hearts - 16,788
* Hibernian - 13,566
* Aberdeen - 12,727
* Dundee United - 8,197
* Kilmarnock - 7,070
* Dunfermline - 6,260
* Motherwell - 6,250
* Falkirk - 5,515
* Inverness CT - 5,061
* Livingston - 4,938
These were the average attendance for each Scottish side this last year.
We get 17K for a weeknight game that counts for nothing but pride.

I didn't read excuses, I read some pretty harsh criticism of Celtic's current form. And while the praise for DC United might have been tempered a little with "Stateside football"-ish asides, there was genuine respect as well.

I guess it was the mentions of "humidity" and the "poorly disquised" baseball field remarks that made me think they were trying to sneak excuses in...;)

Hello Srdan,
I don't live in DC but travelled from Scotland to cover the game. Was informed by local guys that baseball sold out the RFK but that's not an excuse for the error as it should have been checked.
In any case, I wasn't making a dig at the MLS or at DC. A growing league and a very good team, as I spent 900 words writing about earlier this week.
Thanks,
Mark Wilson
I say we find them Local Guys and lynch them :D

Team Talk:
The only bright spot for Celtic was no stoppage time was added on in either half. :D
