Why would an Italian get the Golden Ball if FIFA thought it necessary to strip them of their title?

first off, i don't think this is gonna happen, but you never know with FIFA. and, i guess, if they were gonna strip the title (which i repeat i hope they don't) then France would get the title, not Germany. Cannavaro would win if Zidane is stripped, simply based upon the voting. I don't know if stripping the title would automatically remove him from the GB running...
anyway, this would be worse for soccer than the headbutt. i hope zidane speaks out today to clarify what Materazzi said, its unfair of him to let anlother player be subject to this public abuse if it wasn't a racist comment.

FIFA cannot judge basing it on what a part of the incident reports. it's like you are jailed/fined because I say that you said/did something to me without any more proof, just my words.
The idea that the title could be stripped rather than show a likely thing to happen, shows the level of sportmanship of the german newspaper who speculated about it (a german newspaper is not = all the germans)
Then it's italians who are the moaners/cheaters/sore losers surrounded by great gentlemen, high examples of sportmanship.
I am taking note of all this stuff. it will come handy when the same old accuses vs moaning/sore loser italy and italians will come out.

:o sorry! but FIFA is looking into the GB, and it will be interesting to see what happens if, indeed, it can be proven that MAterazzi made a racial slur. which, i add, is still complete speculation (UK tabloid lip-readers aside).

So blame the team for one player's actions? Then the whole french team should have been disqualified when Zidane got his red.

well, you should know. the Italian prosecutor is talking about stripping Juve of its '05 & '06 titles even though NO players appear to be involved....
like i said, i hope it doesn't happen, but Blatter is a man on a mission. just what mission, we'll never kknow...

Well, Zidane had his Golden Ball taken away...looks like Cannavaro will be picking it up, instead.
Zidane didn't say much about the incident so perhaps the whole deal will just be dropped.

Zidanes word > Sepp Blatter > Referee > Materazzis word

doh I misread the ESPN article...Blatter said Zidane "could" be stripped of the Golden ball award, not "would." I imagine they will take it away, though, based on that embarassing red card.

apparently, FIFA also has the power to strip Italy of the title if it's proven that materazzi used a racial slur. this is what Der Spiegel is reporting.

But he didn't use a racial slur!! So why is this talk still continuing?

because der spiegel wants to sell papers obviously.
i think we'll know for sure when FIFA does its own investigation on the matter. i cant say i necessarily trust zidane or materazzi's words.

It's in FIFA's regulations that they CAN do this. But since Zidane's interview, we can take even the tiny shred of possibility of this happening completely off the table.
