View Full Version : Chelsea Supporters Registry (CSR) Forum -- Shut Down!

I've been a regular on the CSR forums (http://www.chelsea-fc.com/csr) for several years now, an England-based fan website with a very loyal and large base of forum members. I've really enjoyed them because by and large, most of the contributors are from England and have been fans of the club far longer than me. They lend a great perspective to team news that I have really appreciated.

This morning, I found that the forum has been shut down. After some searching on the site, I found this message:

Fellow Blues,

Since their debut in 1996 the CSR Forums have been witness to an amazing transformation of our club. The first call of duty (the offical site wasn't even born at the time) was to field all the tributes for the late and great Matthew Harding. Many came from Leeds, West Ham, Millwall - who all put aside the rivalry - they recognised a top man even if he was Chelsea. And then from Zola to Abramovich, losing the cantankerous bearded-one in between (Leeds down!), our fortunes have just kept rising. We've only gone and signed Ballack and Shevchenko! Who'd of thort it all those years ago eh?

Sadly, the amount of time required to keep the CSR Forums at their high standard has increased over the last year or so. Big thanks must go out to Loz for stepping up to the Moderator role which helped out greatly - and what a fine job he did, as most of you realised :)

But watching the proliferation of personal attacks between some established members, others using the site to distribute copyrighted media - putting me at personal legal risk...just helped extinguish the fire, the passion, to continue developing the site as I'd intended.

After 10 years it's time for me to reclaim the free time, knock the US$110/mo. hosting fees on the head, spend the money on booze and women instead. Whether that's enough dosh to keep a woman happy I'll have to see ;)

Keep it Blue!
-Paul

Anyone have any other information about this? Anyone have any recommendations for forums I should frequent instead that are England-based? It's only been a few hours but I'm starting to go through withdrawal! Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Manny

I think Paul pretty much explains it all in his parting message. I'm sure we'll all find another site keep yours eyes open for some of the gang on other Chelsea Boards.

I did email Paul and told him that I hoped it was a joke but I'm not holding my breath. 10 years is a long time to run a site on your own so I can't say the bloke doesn't deserve to get on with his life. I know there are a few CSR folks that post on BS so watch here as well.

See ya around

I wouldn't say this forum is shabby, you know. ;)

Riz, absolutely no disrespect meant to this forum. It's just that, as I said above, CSR was mainly England-based fans which just led to a much different discussion than is here. Also, the fact that there were 10 or so sub-forums made it easy to navigate, etc.

All of you are certainly welcome here - I've been to the BBC forums and almost lost my mind in a few minutes.
Can't reduce the number of forums though; I just don't have that kind of pull. Yet. ;)

In all seriousness, if you do want a London specific sub-forum/thread and there's enough interest, we might be able to get something going.

I was on the CSR when it shut down this morning
can't say I didn't see it coming though. I've emailed a couple of the regulars to see if I can find out where they are posting now.

STAY BLUE Scott

Man, the CSR was my lifeline to the club when I first started following back in the mid 90s. I would be in the chat room for every match - there were kindly people who would listen to the match on the radio in england and type in a running commentary. It was nail-biting waiting for the BIG TEXT to show up...

Met some really nice people on there. Phil, Kaz, Silver Surfer, Bill. Good times.
