I am one who hates to see hard fought matches end in PK's. Here is a suggestion on a better way to end the match. After your obligatory extra time periods, you begin the next overtime (golden goal) with each coach taking a player off (10v10 or less if player/s have been ejected). After the next stoppage of play following 5 minutes of play (or however minutes is agreed to by FIFA), each coach takes off another player (now we're down to 9v9 or less). Keep doing this until the golden goal is scored. The game will end with a ball in the net. Can you imagine the excitement with the full field of play and players playing to their absolute limits?:D

In theory it sounds good, but remember tired players get hurt, these guys have just played 120 minutes they are tired, playing longer, with fewer people on the field will result in more tired, more injury. and how low do you go? Could you see it getting down to 5 v 5??

I hate to see it resolved with kicks from the mark, but there has to be a definite way to end. The teams go in knowing the rules and if they want to sit back and play for kicks, so be it, take your chances and roll the dice.

Why dont we just go home and replay it tomorrow. Next week.
Put guys on.. not take them off...
Throw another ball on the field..

I really dont mind the penalty kicks.

I (and you) have grown up playing (or wathcing) the game and it has become just that.. part of the game.

Some of those world cup matches, i was hoping for PKs in the earlier knock out rounds.. somewhat exciting..

I dont think the PK is that bad..

But i am open to suggestions..

There's no better way. PK's are just perfect. 120 Minutes are really enough time for one team to win. If none does, well, PK-Time. :)

And i actually hope to see PK's from time to time, they are ********ing exciting. ;)

I wouldn't mind adding something like sudden death after the normal supplementary time and before a penalty kick shootout. Or perhaps divide the supplementary time into half normal, and half sudden death. But that's also confusing....

I don't mind having penalty kicks, but it's just that they show up so much nowadays that it kind of ruins games....

A few weeks ago I heard this idea:

Take the penalty-kicks directly after normal time and after that start the extra time. This would end the fact that both teams play very cautious in extra time, because 1 team has to score in extra time to progress.

And also a miss in the penalty-kicks isn't as important as it is now. You can still make up for it in extra time.

Uh, not if you miss all five penalty kicks. If a team is leading 5-0 on penalties, you're pretty much screwed (Switzerland Vs Ukraine, for example).
