I have been reading people comments and must say I am trully discussed by how many anti italian posters there are. Regardless on how many people disagree this is a fact that will never change "ITALY 2006 WORLD CHAMPIONS".
Just some fact that you may want to know. Italians have qualified for all but one World Cup. We have been in 6 finals winning 4, and lost 3 times in the semi finals. That make us the 2 most successful nation of soccer in the world next to Brazil. In comparision France has 3 finals winning one and two semi finals and the so called super power England has been to one finals winning in 66 and one semi finals in 1990.
I can't believe how bitter the french are. They are the divers in fact Rosselli that made the call on Henry dive that led to the second goal from France against Spain was sent home after that game. The penalty against Italy was also a dive but later we got away with one so that is even. In comparision the referee that made the call for Italy against Australia stayed and ref the semi finals.
There is always a bit of luck in winning the World Cup and this one in my opinion was much more successful than 2002 where the ref mistakes sent home Portugal Italy and Spain. We lost in a shootout in 1990 1994 and 1998 and in extra-time with a bad ref in 2002 so we do deserve a bit of luck on our side. I do not think we were the best team but as we have seen in the past the best teams do not usually win. In my opinion England and Italy were the best team in 1990 and they both lost in a shootout in the semi finals. IT hurts to lose the finals in a shootout because we lost in 1994 so I know how it feels.
As for the Zindane incident I am a huge fan or his and beleive he is the greatest magician with the ball I have ever seen. He make everything look so easy so if Italy wasn't in the finals I would support France. I do not think Matterazzi made a racial comment but I am sure that he did make a offense comment but in soccer that is normal. Call someone mother a slut is comment especially in Latin America.
Regardless ITALIA you have made me proud......

It won't change but no one will care. no one will say "oh remember when the great admirable Italy won in 06"... no. People will remember the diving and the poor referreeing and "that" headbutt. This world cup has been shit for a reason.
but congratulations anyway, you played well against Germany.

Well, 98% of non-US fans here like England or Germany. Italy doesn't deserve the World Cup, but England, the team that barely beat TnT or Germany, who surrendered two goals against Costa Rica and BARELY beat Poland, deserve it more.

this is a fact that will never change "ITALY 2006 WORLD CHAMPIONS".
Until FIFA DQ them under their new anti-racism Article 55 law
Article 55 of the new FIFA disciplinary regulations concludes that if a player "denigrates someone in a defamatory manner on account of race, colour, language, religion or ethnic origin" leading to the possible penalties "if any player, association or club official or spectator perpetrates any kind of discriminatory or contemptuous act as described by par. 1 and/or 2 of this article, three points will automatically be deducted from the team concerned, if identifiable, after the first offence. In the case of a second offence, six points will automatically be deducted, and for a further offence, the team will be relegated. In the case of matches without points, the team concerned, if identifiable, will be disqualified."

xenaphobia. Your comment appear to be from someone that is jealous or just pure ignorant. I have spend my alot of my soccer playing being called a ****** especially by english players. Get over it.........Italia is 2006 WORLD CHAMPIONS...by the way which team if yours. I guess just like Gattuso said you must have been beaten up by an italian or your girlfriend left you for one.
stralian this world cup was alot better than 2002 that is for sure. Your team played amazing and was so happy when they qualified. But I disagree with you as the years pass people will forget as they forget about all the past mistakes made in the world cup.

This world cup has proven to the world who the best footballing nation of 2006 was. Italy. no one can change this fact no matter how hard they try the Azzuri deservingly beat Germany in a what shouldv'e been final and hung on to win a penalty shootout against France.
This world cup lived up to expectations and higher.

Never change? So are you suggesting Italy won't win another World Cup for 100 years. That's a bit pessimistic, mate.
And why all the England bashing? Most English posters have been positive about Italy.
Yet another Canadian plastic who just wants a cheap shot at England, I reckon.

Yeah, congrats for winning by doing more than your share of cheating, diving, and perhaps racially taunting another player.
In 2002 and 2004 the whole nation of Italy cried foul, moaned, complained, whined and swore there was a conspiracy. They protested the results of the matches they lost with furor, and some even demanded an investigation.
Now that you've won, you're whining yet again that no ones paying attention? And you're telling other people to stop complaining? I know everyone is hypocritic, but you, along with many other supporters take it to a new height.
There's a saying, 'Those who have to shout out that they are winners are no winners at all.'
Yes, no matter what, Italy won.
But no matter what, this victory forever be considered tainted by many people.
Again, congratulations, Italy.
Enjoy it,
For what its worth.

4 Stars...thats all I gotta say :)
Amen!
It's funny how people are obsessing about Zidane, and pathetically enough, this is not his first headbutting. I seem to recall in the past years he also headbutted a Saudi Arabian player because of an apparent "racial slur" which has never been confirmed. Zidane is simply spewing the same excuses, and his expulsion was entirely justified.
Many people are never going to accept that Italy won the World Cup, fine, who cares? The result will stand, Italy defeated France on a penalty shootout (that everyone expected us to lose), and we will add a fourth star to the uniform.
Besides, Zidane started the whole argument, and as if his headbutt wasn't unjustifiable enough, it's still his fault because he began slandering Materazzi first. So many people forget that this is no Zidane's first headbutting, which should have alarms going off....
Regardless, France played well, and I am looking foward to a fantastic match on the 6th of September,

I'm just sadly amused by the, the "We won, f*** everybody else and their opinions and complaints" attitude by certain people, who were singing a different song in the past when things weren't going their way.
If you think 'sportsmanship' means applauding people who act like complete ass***** after they've won, perhaps you should consult a dictionary.
I applaud those who are gracious winners(many Italians are), not spoiled and whinning, 'winners'.

Innocent until proven guilty. Whatever it was that Materazzi said cannot be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.
ESPN this morning siad that the BBC had hired a lip reader and that what Materazzi said was:
"I wish an ugly death to all of your family" "Go (expletive) yourself"
Not too bad really. Does anybody remember a guy named Michael Jordan??? Evidently he was the worst trash talker in the NBA -- making death threats to other players himself while on the court. He is still regarded as the greatest of all time. By my account if that is in fact what Materazzi said -- it is not racist.
Zidane is a fool for what he did -- and remember he is no saint either. What is to say that the Italian players were not be racially abused by the French? It is a he said she said argument.
