Wednesday, July 12
RFK Stadium
Kickoff :: 7:30 pm

Broadcast Info
TV: CSN
Radio: WACA, WMET (per note on United's website stating that all matches will be carried by these stations)
--------------------------------------------------------
We have several threads discussing tailgating and other aspects so it's time to get some pre-game discussion going.
Mods feel free to add any necessary info.
Runaway MLS regular season leader DC United plays reigning Scottish champion Celtic in about 48 hours.
This is a midweek game for us between home-and-away meetings with Columbus. According to DC United's website we won't have another mid-week game until August 2nd when we play in the US Open Cup.
Celtic is wrapping up their pre-season and start the Scottish League season on July 29. I don't believe they play any Champions League games before September.
Wednesday should be hot, the high is forecast to be 90 F.
Who plays for DC? Esky is suspended for next Saturday, Olsen is still working his way back into the lineup after WC duty, Tino seems to be straining at the leash for some playing time. Does Nick Rimando go more than 45?
Celtic have WC players Nakamura (Japan) and Poland's Zurawski and Boruc (the keeper who shut out Germany for more than 90 minutes) in addition to a fine collection of Scottish lads. Who starts for them?
Here's Celtic's link (http://www.celticfc.net/squad/squad.asp)to their current squad

Going out on a reeeeaaally long limb here.....
Give Esky and Tino the start up top.
Adu controls the midfield from an attacking standpoint.
Moose and McTavish on the wings (what the hell).
Simms and little Carroll backing Adu.
The backline stays put, and Rimando in goal.
strange line up but I want as many regulars rested for Sunday. Moreno, Gomez, B. Carroll, Gros and Olsen need some time off. Oh, and Perkins deserves a break.

I love midweek games. I especially love them when I of course want DC to win but the stress is lessened by it being a friendly.
Send Esky the full 90. He's got a week and a half to recover for the match at Chicago. Otherwise it will not upset me at all if we see tons of reserves after the first half. Hell, I really want to see how guys like J. Carroll, Moose, and Nickell would perform given serious minutes in front of a good crowd.
And play Rimando. Why not?

Play some version of the starting lineup the first half, mix it up second half. Perkins first half, Rimando second.
Eskandarian, Simms or Olsen, Wilson maybe, Adu maybe, go all 90.

As much as I'd like to see Carroll and Gros rest, I think they have the most to gain by starting and playing against some real quality players, as opposed to some garbage time towards the end.
These two (along with Tino, and Eski) need to see what the next level truly is.

I'd like to see Esky do the full 90 if he is effective, also would like to see more of Mediate, Q and Olsen. But our starters do need/deserve a chance to play these guys, even if it is their 2nd or 3rd squad that shows up.
Regardless of "friendly", I still want DC to win it.

Quaranta, forgot about him.
Make him play 90 too, if he can. He needs to get in shape.

Who else is Celtic playing here, and is it before or after us? I'll assume after since I haven't heard how they've done.
They're green, we should beat them :D

Well the United website has listed it for being televised on Comcast here:
http://dcunited.mlsnet.com/MLS/schedule/season.jsp?team=dcu
but I doubt it would be on Direct Kick since it's not an MLS match. Out of towners can probably only see it if they have all the local sports networks on their Dish.

Yawn. Who are these guys again? What is this match, the first round of the USOC or something?

I would like to see our usual starting line-up, minus Perkins. Give Nicky a start. Have Moreno, Gomez, Erpen and Gros all sit at Halftime, inserting Santino, Walker, McTavish and little Carroll at the half. Maybe pull Adu around 60 or 65th minute. Alecko can stay on for the full 90.

I got it from DC United's website. But when I looked back now the site seemed different, so I hope I didn't screw up and post the TV info for Saturday's Columbus game.

Regular starting lineup first half.
I think Moreno and Gomez should sit this one out. They are at the stage in their career where Europe is not going to call anytime soon. Both have played against great players in their careers and their fresh legs will be needed on Saturday w/o Eski.
Edit - Perkins should get 45 minutes.

I got it from DC United's website. So I assume it is on DirectKick unless they screwed up their info.
It appears on the ComcastSportsNet schedule (http://midatlantic.comcastsportsnet.com/tv-listings.asp?date=&listdate=7/12/2006)
