On the RSSSF website, I found this line-up of Boca's team in 1962:

Antonio Roma; José María Silvero, Silvio Marzolini; Carmelo Simeone, Antonio Ubaldo Rattín, Orlando Pecanha de Carvalho; Héctor Pueblas, Norberto Menéndez, Paulo Valentim, Miguel Hugo Pezzi, Alberto Mario González.

It has been given in a 2-3-5 formation but does anybody know if this was the team's regular formation? If not, which formation did they play and how were these players positioned?

Actually, in 1962 Boca Juniors played a 4-2-4 formation, very similar to the formation that Brazil used to win the world cup in 58. In fact, 'el gordo' Vicente Feola, who coached Brazil at the 1958 WC, went on to coach Boca in 1961. By 62 he was replaced by Jose D'amico, but the formation remained the same.

I am not sure if I will get all of these right, but let me try:

Roma of course was the goalkeeper.

The laterals were Carmelo Simeone on the right, and the great Silvio Marzolini on the left. (featured in my avatar).

The central defenders were Silvero, and the Brazilian WC champion Orlando.

'El rata' Rattin played as a modern DM, or 'cuevero' right in front of the line of four. His partner in midfield was Gonzalito, who had a more offensive role. He could also play wing, as he primarily did later, but I think in 62 he was used mostly in midfield.

Menendez and Paulo Valentim were the strikers. Menendez more of what today might be call a withdrawn striker, and Valentim a penalty area centerforward and the ultimate poacher.

Pueblas was a young right winger. I am not sure about Pezzi, but by process of elimination I figure that Pezzi must have been the left winger. Of course, Gonzalito could play left wing as well, so maybe Pezzi could have been the other midfielder.

The stars of the team were Roma, Orlando, Marzolini, Rattin and Valentim. But one interesting thing that Rattin mentions in his biography is that when D'amico brought the youngsters Pueblas and Pezzi up from the third division, (two players who are mostly forgotten), it was a turning point in the season.

So, there you have it, more or less. That is the Boca Juniors team that won the Argentine championship in 1962.
