It will be superb if we finish 4th in our impending Euro qualifying group.
We'd better not slip any further down the seedings :(

I Have to agree with you Nk i think Italy has shown the depth they have and well the rest of the group isn't going to be a push over either.

Italy are not as strong as many believe they struggled to beat a very old
tired France team in Germany and if Zindane didn't go stupid on the field
then the world cup would be sitting in Paris as we speak. Scotland if they
can win the home tie and get a draw in Italy then they have a chance.

We won't finish above Italy but what's so great about France (minus half their team) and Ukraine?
Ukraine played two good sides and got gubbed, nothing scary there.

Tis a scunner of a group, but no fear, everyone is chasing italy as far as i can see, and of the remaining teams anyone could probably take points off anyone else on their day.
Just have to make sure we win our home games . . . aye. .

I would have agreed with that before Lippi resigned. I think him leaving throws the group open.

We've been better away from home so far under Wattie.
I think he's done a very good job so far, well at least compared to Berti, that is. I am more confident going into this group of death with him, than I was with the previous weak group with Berti in charge.

3rd place is definately the aim but we do have a good outside chance of qualifying.
I do have my worries, mainly that Wattie will be too negative, if we play 5 at the back against Faroes i'll be worried. No Lee McCulloch or Neil McCann either!
On a side note the new style Fifa Rankings has us at number 41. It doesn't mean much but it is another indicator that B*rti's influence has gone :D

France right know are easy picking as that defeat in Germany will have them rebuilding. Ukraine while you said are nothing special can play and should be watched.

Was just on my way to type something to that extent, while no wide open I think, depending on who they appoint, they wont be such run away winners at least. Lippi to my mind is the most attack minded of italian coaches.

I know that a 3rd place finish would probably move us up a pot for the next WC qualifying (very handy) but there's no way that can be our objective. 2nd place has to be our aim and there is no way in hell that we should feel inferior to a Zidaneless, Thuramless and Makaleleless France or Ukraine.

Actually, we shouldn't have an aim. Aims misdirect focus from the task at hand - the next game. Take each game as it comes, perform to your best and see where you are at the end. If we perform to our best in each game we could qualify.
What I was saying was that in such a hard group 3rd is acceptable and respectable. I'd like to see us get 2nd, and I think we have a chance. 4th place isn't acceptable, anything below that and Wattie gets shot out a cannon into the north sea!

Or we could leave him stranded in Aberdeen, Dundee or Greenock, any of those would be a much worse fate than the cannon into the drink.

IMO it's gonna be very, very tough to qualify. I really think you got the worst group...

I think 4th place is eminently acceptable.

You should finish above the Ukraine, who imo are vastly overrated, their best result being a draw with Switzerland. However you can only hope that France or Italy take points off each other so you can catch them up.

France won't be the same team that played at the World Cup, I think we can take them.

I admire the optimism! How long before we get an England fan on here call you arrogant!! :D
Wonder what Italy will be like under Donadoni as well.
Under 19’s start tomorrow. Hope that is the start of something special. Shocking Rangers only have one player in that whole squad! Mind you when you get down to the under 16’s and below we dominate.

Surely Italy can only be worse under Donadoni, just becuse Lippi was one of, if not the, best international manager around.
They also won't have Totti, although I don't know how much that will affect them. Also, we'll have to wait and see how their post-scandal reaction is, not as good as their pre-scandla one I'd bet.
