Good article although there is no direct reference to the Backs being in MLS. But it looks clear that it could be on the horizon if they continue to do well.

Kahuna- Thanks for the post. I like that fact that he sticks to the long term plan. Alot of investors might have pulled stakes and run after a few years a Dekalb Memorial. Also good to see he is getting some more press as well.

I agree....they are forming a very solid foundation that will ensure that the Backs are here to stay. I just hope we can grow fast enough to get one of the MLS expansion slots.

i hate how the stupid soccer moms complained about being part of the Silverbacks. i think the biggest thing the Silverbacks need to do is get more homegrown talent.

Agreed. I use to really enjoy watching Broder play. It was pretty neat to see a guy from Dunwoody playing on the team. We could use more like that. I am not to familiar with system. Do they give people a tryout with the PDL team who are in the affilate youth leagues? How does that work?

Have you ever met a "soccer mom" from Cobb or Gwinnett? Think about the president of a high school touchdown club and then add estrogen and a grande latte. It would really be nice to have some youth academies so they can teach kids how to attack instead of just play. It would also put unbiased eyes on top instead of crazy Little League parents that want to live through their children.
I think what the Silverbacks need more than anything is notoriety. Maybe if they can make the playoffs (tied for 5th right now, 6 make it) a TV station or two might come out. Hopefully next year they'll have the stadium looking less like the work-in-progress that it is and more casual fans can be drawn in. If people think soccer is boring, they should've seen last night. It was like a PlayStation game where you totally dominate the computer side. Atlanta scored 4 and could've easily had 8.

Advertising would be a good thing. Every time I go out wearing my Silverback shirt, people tell me what an interesting shirt it is. I tell them that I support the Atlanta Silverbacks and they ask me what are the Atlanta Silverbacks. When I tell them the Silverbacks are our Pro Soccer team, everyone is surprised that we have one. No one has ever heard of them.

Most of the people I know in ATL do not even know about the silverbacks. If I had a family to take to a sports event let us say Braves or Backs. Backs are way more fun. The Braves are full of families. The Backs ought to hit some of those folks.

channel 46 news in Atlanta has been showing short features of the Silverbacks on the sports segment. I think they are the only TV station that even mentions them.

Has anyone corrected him on this?
Today, as the rest of the sporting globe fixates on the World Cup finals, legions of Yanks will pay more attention to the last round of baseball games before the All-Star break.

Good point....seems the attention this WC drew from the States took everyone by surprise.

The fact that Zinedine Zidane pulled a ninjitsu move in the final probably helped the post-Cup media attention. The U.S. tying the eventual champions didn't hurt. Same with Brazil not winning. It would be interesting to see what ratings it could get in prime time. Isn't the 2014 Cup supposed to be in S. America?
