Okay,

So what's up with Eskie? And it being his birthday doesn't count.

The goal was gorgeous, and I was figuring what kind of a post I'd make on it, when he pulled a jackass routine and got his red-card.

And it definately should have been a red-card. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy, but it seems to me that without Dema here, Esky has decided to step into his shoes. I love his passion, but it is a little extreme.

Do you remember how Eskie played against NE? Well, once again, he let his passion destroy his ability to play properly.

Well, I wouldn't worry about it, he's just letting off frustration for being sidelined. it was stoopid, and a mistake, but it didn't cost us the game, and coming back from injury and all, it's probably not a bad thing for him to play 50 minutes, sit a week and then play again.

And Eski is united to the core.

I agree with Kravi. Last night DCU had two players on the field who were wound way too tight -- Olsen and Esky. Olsen got a yellow early and just couldn't stop yapping at the ref. Lagerway noted that the Gomez sub was, in part, a reaction by Nowak to get Olsen off the field before he got a second yellow. Esky just let his "stupid Esky" side come out at the worst possible moment. Yeah he's good and yeah's he's "United to the core", whatever that means. But his selfish brain fart took a dangerous offensive player off the field and left his team a man down in a one goal game on the road. There are a thousand reasons why someone does something stupid on the field, a professional let's all of them go. You can keep your cool like Brian Carroll or you can be like Clint Mathis. Every player has the choice.

Yeah, Olsen and Esky were pretty high-strung. The IMO poor ref didn't help matters either. In fact probably escalated their frustration level.

The guy Gonzalez was involved in i think every altercation. He ran over several DC attackers and somehow the fouls were on the DC players. I understand that esky was running away with the ball, but that doesn't give Gonzalez the right to trip Esky in going for the ball. Unfortunately, Esky (much like Mastroeni in the US v Italy game) gave the ref an opportunity to mess it up, and of course he did.

I don't think this is anything new for esky, I think he's been red-carded at least once each year in the league...

I just think that Esky was really pissed that Gomez took the free kick from outside the 18 after Esky scored on the first one.

The columbus guy flopped like an italian world cup player. It should have been a yellow card for both players.

I disagree slightly. Gonzalez was an a-hole for grabbing Esky, Esky was a bigger a-hole for retaliating in front of the ref. Straight red for Esky, yellow for Gonzalez for grabbing Esky and diving. Since Gonzalez already had a yellow, he goes too. Ref then sends this message, "turn this into a schoolyard free for all and I don't care if the only ones left are the goalkeepers."

I didn't see it as a straight red. In the world of MLS refs maybe, but not in the real world.

He has 2 red cards, this one and in his rookie season, against Columbus were Hudson or the asst coach basically told him to get the card. Eski talked about this in a story the Post did on him IIRC.

If Gonzalez is already on a yellow, it does not change the offense. A bookable offense is a bookable offense.

Are we gonna have to start applying the kitten rule to Eski's red card as well as Adu?

that bitch was rolling on grass like someone just kneed him in the balls :D

I agree... But perhaps the rolling bit was an audition for the national team...

That red call on Esky was World Cup "quality".

P.s. in case your humor impaired I meant that in an entirely sarcastic manner :D

Don't worry with time and experience, Esky will become the consumate profession, just like Zidane.
Oh yea, never mind.

I politely disagree. I see that, absolutely, as a straight red card. Esky, bless his New Jersey soul, fouled a guy in a dead-ball, no-play situation. If that isn't a red card, what is?

So sure, some people will say the guy deserves it because he took down Esky to get the ball back. But Esky was being a jackass in the firstplace by refusing to hand over the ball.

I aknowledge that most of us are homers, but that was a good call.

Actually, I thought the ref had a pretty decent game in general.

Well, the way I see it, in a perfect world when esky ran away with the ball the columbus player would have turned to the ref and said hey, give him a yellow for acting like a baby. then the ref blows his whistle, issues the card, and everything is fine.

in the next to perfect world, the ref sees esky with the ball, the columbus player being just as bonehead as esky, gives esky the yellow for delay of game and a straight red to the columbus player for fouling someone on a dead ball. (assuming esky does not retaliate because of ref's intervention)

in the next to next to perfect world, he see's both dead ball infractions and gives them both a straight red for being idiots.

of course, how we end up in the 3x next to perfect world with nothing for the columbus player, i'm not quite sure.

(it's pretty similar to thornton muggin moreno after the penalty, which also should have been a red card.)

No defense for Eski from me - was the card harsh? Yes. Was it well within the ref's purview to show that card? Yes.

Upon further reflection, however, the lack of a card for the Crew player does strike me as odd. Wasn't there a very similar play last year where Jaime got a red for a very similar play? Opponent was whistled for something, decided to dribble away from Jaime with the ball, Jaime coolly clips his ankle from behind, ref shows Jaime the red for a dead-ball foul even though the opponent was being a jerk and delaying his re-start.

I think the ref missed the first part of hte scuffle. And only saw the Eskie foul.

P.S. I just noticed I've spelled it Eskie and Esky... :)
