I feel bad for the six or seven normal and reasonable Crew fans that have to put up with this crap.
Honestly, just move closer to DC and support United. You'll be a lot happier.

Well, to be honest, a certain amount of that Star Wars crap was inflicted on the DC fans at home watching on TV, but it was more puzzling and troubling than bothersome.
Seriously, though, what was up with that?

It was a half-time advertisement for a traveling science museum exibit...

One that's also visited Boston, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, etc.

Sigh.
There is some sort of Star Wars exhibit at the local science museum. I couldn't believe they let all the clones on the field to wave their frekin' plastic swords. It was to close to that "Triumph the Insult Comic Dog" when he attended the Star Wars premiere.
So, which one of these buttons calls your mom to pick you up?
EDIT: Dammit, Fid.

Here's the link to the Crew's announcement:
http://columbus.crew.mlsnet.com/MLS/news/team_news.jsp?ymd=20060707&content_id=65025&vkey=pr_coc&fext=.jsp&team=coc
Characters expected to be on hand include Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Jedi knights and Strom Troopers. They will be in full costume within the plaza during pre-game, starting at 6 p.m. when gates open, to sign autographs and pose for pictures. Halftime will feature a reenactment of a battle scene between good and evil.
I really don't know what to really say about this. It's not like making fun of NYRB's follies. Poking fun at this event seems it's like making fun of a handicapped kid or something.

Yeah but do you think the few normal people in Columbus even noticed a difference? There are probably 20 people dressed up like Chewbacca and Stormtroopers in their northend "supporters groups" every game.

Chewbacca would never support the Crew. Never.

Don't need an alert.
We nerds usually announce ourselves pretty unambiguously all on our own.

I actually got a call during halftime from JoeSoccerFan who said something like "you wouldn't believe this shite..." Apparently faced or no, this was one memorable halftime show!

Has anyone figured out what Star Wars has to do with science? I mean does this museum have actual blasters, light sabres, and space ships for sale? Of course maybe it's science fiction like the 2006 Crew are soccer fiction. :)

Well, as a kid I got interested in science as a result of reading science fiction, so I don't think it's a huge stretch. The whole thing was just goofy in the context of the soccer game.
