In Germany, drivers stay to the right on the Autobahn. In America, drivers poke along in the left lane on the Interstate and hold up traffic for miles.
In Germany, drivers use their turn signals. In America, drivers rarely use their turn signals. When they cut right in front of you and run you off the road, they flip you a bird. (Go figure.)
In Germany, pedestrians wait for the walk signal. In America, if it looks like you might be able to make it, go for it. If a driver honks his horn, flip him a bird.
In Germany, four people ride together in a VW. In America, one guy will ride alone in his Hummer. He’ll be on the phone, too.
In Germany, an A/C isn’t all the necessary. Just open a window and turn on a fan. In America, crank that baby way low. The room will get cooler as the earth gets warmer.
In Germany, you get a petite little scoop of ice cream in a cup for under a Euro. You’ll walk the calories off within an hour while looking for a recycling container. In America, you drive up to the window and order an extra value combo meal with a large chocolate shake. When finished, try to find a garbage can. If you can’t, chuck it out the window.
In Germany, if your eyes accidentally meet someone else’s, just nod with a smile and look away. In America, if your eyes accidentally meet someone else’s, just yell, “Yo, wha chu lookin’ at, bitch? You wanna piece o’ me.”
I’ll try to think of more to add…

THEN MOVE TO GERMANY!!!. Europe is nice!.
You all talk so much nice about Germany, that I´m more and more proud and happy to live here. I actually had a dream to live in USA, in NYC and still have this dream. Hard choise:).
YES I love Germany. Great place to live.
But USA is also wonderful country and Americans are very nice people.
Very easy-going and friendly.!

I was gone for 6 months until last week. It's amazing how different things appear once you've come back. My first week back I saw a few reallly fat people every day... I never saw people of that size in Europe. Never.
Even last night i was talking to my friends about how vulgar/bellicose Americans can get when they are out drinking. The English are like that, but in Spain, in Germany, I didnt notice that at all.

You're right. I think that we Americans are some of the nicest and friendliest people around.
I do, however, think that we have trouble comprehending that our actions have consequences. We live for the moment. That can be fun, but not always the right thing to do.
I'd enjoy living in Germany from what I can tell, but perhaps I should spend my time trying to change the US for the better.

BTW, when I returned from Germany, I did change a couple of habits.
(1) I turned up the thermostat on the A/C to 78 ºF (25.5 ºC). It was on 74.
(2) The grocery store is about a 1.5 miles (2.4 km) down the street. Instead of driving, I've been riding my bicycle if I only need a couple of things.

In Germany, nudity isn't a big deal.
In the USA, we almost shut down the entire country because of a nipple on TV.

In Germany, people chain-smoke nonstop everywhere and anywhere. In the USA, it's becoming more and more difficult to smoke indoors everywhere.
Thanks, that's enough for me. USA hands down.

American culture tends to be a little bit uptight and puritanical about some things. (Thank you, James Dobson and Pat Robertson.) Ironically, Americans also don't like being told what to do.

relative to other western countries perhaps, somewhat. not at all relative to other cultures, right? you understand the difference I presume.women walk around dressed like trash here all the time as you well know.

You are correct my friend. America has given women too many rights we can all agree. But do not stereotype the trashyness of such women to the whole of America. The real America is the heartland of America. The real America is God, Family, Nation. America might get a bad name due to hollywood but what can we do, one day a big earthquake will take care of that like scientists say.

i dunno. i think the 1960s changed america and western societies forever. the secular west rejects religion entirely. that will probably never change.

Well, no shit. Like you said, it's all relative. That's why this thread is titled "Germany vs USA" instead of "Saudi Arabia vs USA". Most people get that without stating the obvious.

You're kidding, right? I'm looking for the little winky face in your post, but I don't see it.
This thread is starting to prove its original point.
