Great story (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/07/07/AR2006070701596.html)

"Right now, I'm enjoying every minute of it," McTavish said. "You know, I'm walking into the locker room and seeing all these people I grew up watching on TV."

Indeed -- and that is the quote. MLS is now at the point where this can happen like the rest of the globe.

"McTavish eventually chose West Virginia -- a school known as much for soccer as for surfing -- mostly because it was the only Division I school to show any interest."

Sad but true in regards to the men's team at that point. Devon's one of the big reasons why that's changing now.

when fatbastard and me were up at harrisburg for the exhibition match, a member of the United technical staff told us to watch mctavish. he said he'd soon not just be challenging for a place on the match roster but in the first 11. said he was the "find" of the year.

Let's hope McTavish plays with the same pride and fire as Chino.

In a similar story on Alpha Carroll last year on the year before, he talked about tailgating before MLS Cup '97 hoping he could, one day, step on out that field.

In happier times, Freddy talked about rooting for United before he went pro as well.

That's 4 team members, possibly more with Stokes and Beta Carroll who grew up watching United.

Of course, Esky grew up watching the Scum, so we even win there.

It's the big difference between now and pre-MLS times. Kids today can dream of playing in the pros while before that dream was never really there.

Great story on McTavish. I hope he keeps improving.

I liked McTavish a lot from watching him in the reserves.

I like him even more now for the classy classy move he had at Sunday's reserve match up in Ohio. He came over after the game and shook everyone's hand, thanking them for coming out.

He's a good kid. :D

Actually you're both right. :)
