You would likely have to leave the tube and go into the train station part, but I'm sure they have it.

Yes, that's where it is.

if I'm planing on using the tube often (multiple times a day) and i'm staying for 10 days, what is the cheapest option as far as some type of pass goes?

Not sure, but probably buying an Oyster card on arrival is your best bet.

Weird thing about Oyster cards is that the machines won't let you purchase them or top them off with US credit cards. Apparently, our cards lack some chip in them that the European ones do that are necessary for the machines. The only problem with that is that it does force you to go to the ATM more often.

I believe banks like BankofAmerica and Barclays have an agreement where you won't be hit with ATM fees if you use each others' machines.

What the best thing to do with an Oyster card is just top it up with cash. You pay £5 for one(£3 for it+£2 to start you off). Just go to the machine, swipe you card, press top up and put maybe £20 in and you should be set for the week.

Oyster cards are the way to go. Now, depending on where you'll be traveling (zones) there are different options. If you are staying in certain zones (say 1 & 2) it may be a good idea to get a 7 day pass. This will let you travel as many times as you want within those 7 days for one fee. The only trouble is that if you leave those zones you have to pay the difference then and there or you can't get back on until you do. Not really that big of a deal but it can be annoying. Otherwise just getting a card and topping it up will work fine, it's just that you pay for each trip.

I thought that there was a maximum daily charge that does not exceed (roughly) 5 pounds or so.

Could be, but I'm not sure. I seem to remember paying for all my tube trips, but of course I was drinking much of the time.

That sounds about right. When I was at the Emirates Cup this year, I only had £12 on my card for the four days I was down there. Never had an issue.

The daily maximum charge cannot exceed what you would pay for a one day travel card depending on what zones you use.

Cost of each trip:

Tube

Monday to Friday before 9.30 am £1.80
All other times including Bank Holidays £1

Bus £0.90

Speaking of drinking and Tube-ing (not that you meant you were doing the two at the same time), for those of you who haven't been here recently I thought I should give you a heads up that drinking alcohol is no longer permitted on public transport in London... you have the new mayor, Boris Johnson, to blame for this!

So get your drinks in before you get on a bus or the Tube... Just don't want anyone getting nailed with a fine for something that was perfectly acceptable and legal last time they were here!

I'm just posting something new because I keep getting notification that aa tickets has posted here but nothing is showing up.

Edit: and as soon as I post this, the aa tickets post becomes visible. Weird.

Jeez, what's the point of going to Europe if they're just going to make you behave like you're home.

Not a problem for me.

Is passing out on the Tube now illegal as well? ;)

Pay attention to the Oyster qualifications. They are adders for National Rail and buses. An all day 1-6 travelcard gets you every bus or BR train or tube from Heathrow to the Olympic site, Wimbledon to Barnet. If you don't sort it out ahead of time with an Oystercard you have to pay a fare if you jump on a bus in a rainstorm or something. Travelcards cover it all

There's still a difference between here and home (at least if New England is home): you can still drink in public here - on the streets, sidewalks, walking along, whatever. You just have to chug it before you step on the bus.

And, with no offense intended toward my dear host nation, you can act like much more of a jack@ss in public while drinking and still seem normal here...

All,
Any idea when we can expect confirmation of the venues/dates for the CL group matches?

The draw is on August 28th with dates and times of the group matches confirmed soon thereafter.

I'm sure Boris will be working on banning drinking on the street - after a certain Arsenal America member chased him down Holloway Road with a pint in hand. :D
