That's okay. It's certainly a lot safer than any of the other areas that you have mentioned. :)

Archway really isn't that bad...from my experience anyway. But hey, each to their own I guess.

Road trip, road trip?
Come on guys. I have a two year old and one on the way (not until next May to conflict with Cups BTW).
I get the go ahead from the General (what we call my wife) and the only condition she sets is that i have it in place before she starts planning for the holidays...
I have a hallpass, let's make this happen.

I guess it is good timing that I have a kid coming mid season and am out this year. Hope it falls for next season!

You lucky ducks! I'm going to get slammed when I come to London later this month. Of course, if I end up moving the exchange rate will continue to screw me and I'll have to drop out and move in with my mother.

Try living over here while being paid in dollars. I'm getting BF'd. Nothing like $6.30 a pint of beer. Thank God the USAF base is only an hour away. Nothing like $20 a liter of Bacardi and $18 cases of Sam Adams.

Has anyone ever had any problems flying into London from Amsterdam? I'm going to the Chelsea game on the 16th, at 4 PM GMT, and as of right now I have a flight from Amsterdam arriving at Gatwick @ 955 AM. I know I should be at the stadium/tavern about 3 hours before kick off for the meet up etc, giving me 3 hours to get from Gatwick to Arsenal tube. Importantly, I plan on only having hand-luggage.
Does this seem to be too close of a shave to anyone?

Nope. Coming back from Prague, Rick and I took the regular train and that took ages, so you might wanna get the Gatwick Express which is 30 minutes into Victoria, but then just get the Victoria Line to Finsbury Park. 3 hours should be more than enough time.

Thanks for the quick reply...really helpful as I'm booking a lot of travel at the moment.
I was planning on probably using the Express, even considering the cost, just because it would give me peace of mind. Almost definitely using it now considering your experience.

Here is what you should consider. The Express runs every 15 min and takes roughly 35 minutes into Victoria Station. The commuter trains, at least the fastest ones on First Capital Connect, go right to King's Cross and take about 50-55 minutes.
1. On a Sunday, none of the commuter trains should be delayed, but many might not be running. The commuter train will take you direct to King's Cross Thameslink
2. Check before you go whether the Victoria Line is running regular Sunday service. If not, you might be better off taking the commuter train and then catching either a bus (it's not a long journey) or the Piccadilly line train to Finsbury Park.
Once you get to King's Cross, you can get most anywhere you need to go.
But Nick is right, you should have plenty of time either way.

Hey all, another annoying question to put out to you:
Anyone have experience getting from Old Trafford to Manchester Victoria train station? From the looks of it, the best train for me to take ("Cross Country" down to Winchester) leaves a few minutes past 7 pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Worst case for me trying to grab a train would be a 4 PM Sunday KO, but that should still get me out of the stadium ~6 PM at worst. According to Google, the station is only 3 miles from OT.....I don't see how there could be, but worth asking: any chance of a problem?
[wanted to make sure the trip would be feasible before I jump on the waiting list....LONG shot, I know I know, but I'm now basically addicted to getting to matches, so I'll give it a go...]

The tram runs directly to Victoria I think, but someone else will have to clue you in on where the away section is, if/how long away fans are held, how far it is to the tram station, how long the wait is. If it's 3 miles, you might could walk it faster. See a map here (http://www.visitmanchester.com/images/pdfs/CityCentreMap.pdf) (pdf file). No matter which way you go, though, it will be a close call.

Ah that's right, thanks...I'd forgotten about fans being held. I was surprised they didn't hold up the Arsenal fans at all after the game at Anfield this October.

That's because 1) we didn't win and 2) most of the Liverpool fans had gone, or were making their way to the exit, before the final whistle.

Ah, makes sense. Didn't realize the plan was contingent on anything...
