Well, it is being reported that Charlton have in fact signed Simon Walton from Leeds United. Will he play central defense or defensive midfield?

So, that leaves 5 to 7 more new signings. And among the non-new signings…

Nice to see and hear the extension of Lloyd Sam's contract. And that Mr. Dowie likes the young winger very much. Maybe we will finally get to see his potential put out on the pitch regularly.

What other players will CAFC sign before the window closes this summer?

-- JFH?
-- Sidwell?
-- Kezman?
-- Scott Chipperfield?
-- Jose Pierre-Fanfan?
-- Maniche?
-- Raphael Wicky?
-- Others?

Who would we like to see, within reason? It seems we need some depth all over the pitch, but we are especially short at striker -- unless Mr. Dowie plans on going with a 4-5-1 all the time. If that's his formation, then Bent, Bent and JFH would be enough to probably get through a season. But I don't see that happening. It would be nice to see another speedy type. I wonder if Sam could play a sort of wide forward? Or even put Rommedahl up top with Sam behind him in a 4-4-2?

Talk it up gents. Go Addicks!

I know Charlton had been interested in Onyewu to pair up with Gibbs, but they may not be willing to pay him his salary due to the possibility of relegation (Reading also is reportedly balking on those grounds).

And where did you get this information?

I doubt CAFC would balk because of the possibility of relegation. No plans to go down, you know. Besides, even if the Addicks were to get relegated, they could probably sell off the player to someone still in the Prem.

I would love to see Gooch in a Charlton kit. He looks good in red and white.

From the boards somewhere. Probably the Yanks Abroad section.

Ah, so that means -- nothing. Most likely a far-fetched rumor started by some Charlton fan like me. Wishful thinking.

No, the Charlton was interested part was pretty well sourced, I just can't remember how well sourced the Charlton backing off due to wage concerns was.

It was in the Belfast Telegraph, go look at the "10 world cup stars" thread in YA.

On to other possibilities.

Would anyone Addickted be interested in players realeased by Hearts? How about:

-- Andy Webster, D, 6-0, 140 24
-- Rudi Skacel, M, 5-10, 170. 26

Both players had pretty good seasons for Hearts last year. Skacel actually had like 16 goals.

Has there been any word on whether el k will return to the addicks or stay in qatar?

If he comes back and gibbs is healthy, the back line looks decent.. assuming Young is really serious about staying in SE7.

Who is slotted to play left back with Chrissy Powell leaving?

How to manage the Ambrose/Romm/Thomas midfield situation is the key. If those three are productive then the 2nd striker issue doesn't seem like that big of deal.

I wouldn't mind a 4-5-1 with ambrose in the middle and bent up top, with kish and hughes holding and thomas/romm on the wings as a 'preferred' lineup.

Addicks seal deal for Hasselbaink (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/c/charlton_athletic/5168142.stm)

Charlton have signed Dutch striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on a free transfer from Middlesbrough.

Will he be the 15 goals striker to take Chalrton to next level as he formed surely a 30 goals partnership with Bent :D

...and now D. Bent is signed on a 4 year deal! Things are looking good. I like how Dowie is keen on keeping the squad young and building up. (with the exceoption of JFH, which is just good anyhow)

Apparently, he's staying. He scored a goal during the Millwall testimonial.

This is not summer signings news, but I must say I like the way Dowie is looking at everyone. He's giving all the players a chance to show themselves to him. And Mr. Dowie likes to play young players -- something we all begged Curbs to do again and again.

Go Addicks!

This is insane! Am I going to have to start liking Ian Dowie?!

I was just reading the game reports from Millwal and Hibs, and see James Walker scored in each game. Anyone have ony background on him?? It sounds like he has been in the reserves or youth before.

My understanding is that he was even released by the club at one time.

The email list has people really concerned about all these pre-season friendlies including so many players that couldn't make out of the reserves before. While they like seeing Dowie giving some of the young guys a chance, they think he might be going just a bit too far.
