There doesn't seem to be as much buzz around this match as their was for the
Blue Scum last year. Are we expecting a similar crowd? Maybe 30,000? The fact that it's a wednesday probably doesn't help. According to Ticketmaster, plenty of lower level seats remain.
While I remember, what time do the parking lots open? Can't remember from last month.

I read somewhere that Celtic fans numbering in the 10,000 range are planning to attend. We need to come out strong or we risk being outnumbered in our own stadium.

It is quite possible that we will get a lot of walk-ups for the game, but I think the Wednesday game severly limits those Celtic supporters groups from NYC and Boston to make it to the game.
I hope it does not stop our fans though. I know it does not count, and we will most likely see very little of our starters, but it is a chance to see one of the most famous clubs in the world!
And I appreciate that they agreed to play at RFK instead of making us go out of our way so that they are comfortable like some English teams would of done.

Midweek vs. a mid-level non-Salvadoran team and I'd be surprised to see more than 20K. Have they opened the upper deck?

This game does nothing for me. First it's a mid-week where we won't see too many starters. Second, Celtic? They sucked when they came over 2 years ago and I can't think of a single player on their team since Hartson left. Does Petrov still play for them? Lastly, they play in the SPL, sure they have a lot of history, but it's history, what have they done lately outisde of winning the SPL that only has maybe 3 competitive teams. The Old Firm is a stirring game, due to the historically sectarian rivalry between they and Rangers, but watching them play DC. .eh. Like most european teams they will wilt in our humid weather and the second half will be played at a pace slow enough that I could play in the game. They do have nice uniforms. . . We should have tried to get Reading to come over or maybe a Central or South American team like CD Olimpia from Honduras or The Strongest or River Plate, now that would be cool.

Ooh, careful! Some people here get upset if you are less than enthusiastic about the fact that CELTIC FC will be playing at RFK! When the announcement was first made several weeks ago my reaction was similar to yours, but I got lots of responses explaining to me how "wrong" I was...

All very logical points.
My excitement is not logical though, sorry.
Who cares if we see reserves? Good for them. Get out there and impress someone!
They do still have Petrov (for the time being anyway) and they just signed a Czech stricker who along with Maloney (SPL rookie of the year and MVP) should be an interesting pair to watch.
Hey we go to reserve games to watch our youngsters whoop teams 6-0 I will enjoy them getting better competition.:)

I'm excited to see DC United play. I don't care with which roster we play, or who (or even whom) we play against, or what day of the week it might be

Don't get me wrong about seeing the DC reserves get most of the playing time, I think for them this is a real treat and I do like watching them. That's probably the best thing that will come out of this. For personal reasons, I hope McTavish gets a lot of playing time, although now that he's become a part-time starter, he might only play a half or not at all!

Suffice to say that the Celtic fans that can make a midweek game in our nation's capitol will be there, and will come in strong spirits.
The atmosphere should be great, with chants and cheers and everyone having a great time...
Which is the best f-ing reason anyone would want to go to a match in the first place, especially a "friendly".
Celtic will play DC tough, and it should be an entertaining game. What more can you ask for...?
I am hoping for a tie :D :D :D

I've never been to a game where I honestly did not care who won, because I'd be happy either way. I'm hoping for a 4-4 draw. I'll be wearing my hoops and my dc united scarf cheering like a psychopath for both teams for 90 minutes.

See I am actually looking forward to it. I did not go to the Chealsea match becasue to see them play at Snyder Field did nothing for me and access to Snyder Field on a weekday is a pain in the a$$. I can turn on my TV anytime and see Chealea play and they had no players to draw me in. Now any matchup at RFK I will look forward to but to drag me out to Snyder Field I would have to see something new and fresh. Now I would actually go there to see Reading, for the obvious reasons but a run of the mill South or Central American side, not unless it were at RFK not at Snyder Field.

You think Celtic's going to wilt? You bring The Strongest over and they'll melt like the Wicked Witch of The East.
