View Full Version : So, what do you read in the bathroom?

As my first and only venture into the Books forum, I pose this simple question to you all.

Like everyone out there, I like to pass the time while doing my business by partaking in a little light reading. I have a couple books and some magazines and some catalogues. All are essential for both AFLette and myself.

The books:
Salted Peanuts. The single greatest bathroom book ever assembled. It simply lists 1800 facts about anything and everything in no particular order. With no chapters or plot, one can take a minute to scan through the facs, or take an hour reading page by page. Fills whatever time slot you need to fill.

The Modern Humorist's One Nation Under Cheese. A simple guide to traveling in America written to the first-time visitor to our wonderful country. Absolutely hilarious stuff. Contains lots of pictures - always a bonus.

The Magazines:
Details. We got this cause it's one AFLette and I both like to read. It's not the best in the world, but it does the job.

Cincinnati Magazine. A magazine put out, obviously, about our fair ciry. Not a bad read at all. They have plenty of stuff on what to do in town and where to eat. Got this subscription for Christmas.

The catalogues:
The Land of Nod. It's a kids catalogue we got a while back. I got a reputation for painting all the nursaries for our family's kids a few years back and this catalogue is perfect for getting ideas for stuff I'll get roped into in the future. Also, with all those kids around, we are constantly buying gifts from there.

IKEA. Well, it's cheap. I'm sure most people here probbly hate IKEA for whatever reason, but it's good stuff for very little money - great for getting stuff for our place and for the bar.

Frontgate: It's cool stuff. I never buy anything from there, but I do occasionally buy stuff from their outlet store. Their grilling catalogue is awesome, too.

We are constantly rotating the catalogues, but that;s what we have in there right now.

If I happen to be reading a book either for pleasure or school at the moment the urge presents itself I'll take that, otherwise I keep my bathroom at home pretty-well stocked with Maxim, SI, and things like that; at school, I'll just grab the first periodical I find.

Eyewitness to History, John Carey, ed., is next to the throne right now. It's just what the title says: eyewitness accounts of obscure and famous historical events.

Bathroom Reader's series. Funny books with little quirky facts.

I will read anything with words while in the bathroom. If no catalogs or magazines (usually Southern Living which I'm sure would upset the editors!) are there, and I haven't grabbed a book on the way, I will read labels, directions, anything. I've even read the Spanish and/or French directions to products when necessary!

Usually whatever book or magazine I'm reading at the moment. I have a couple back issues of FourFourTwo in the bathroom as a backup in case I can't remember where I put the damn book. I'm not adverse to re-reading magazines in an emergency.

i also like the onion books in the bathroom, although if you live with other people its kinda weird to be in the can and laughing hysterically.

i also read four four two while in there.

I basically just read the Onion---usually a re-read of a Jim Anchower column.
