Maybe not much is happening at the moment? I don't know.

There does not seem to be much news on any expansion front....I think that will change after this weekend and the end of the WC.

It's surprising, since Cleveland is the apparent front-runner for the next expansion team, with San Jose a lock on the other.

What you apparently have going for you is the natural rivalry with Columbus that would help boost their attendance.

There has been no news/action for way too long. Something big is going to happen very soon.

Well, since Fake Salt Lake may become Fake St. Louis, Cleveland might win by attrition. Just kidding. I believe it's in the bag... unless Gabby and the A$$ Hats screw over 'Stein.

I am hoping some news comes out now that the WC is over, but since I am out of town I am out of the loop too. Where do people look for the news they are(were) getting?

The next hurdle, as I understand it, is getting the State of Ohio, specifically the legislature, to approve the use of Summit County Port Authority's issuance of bonds for site improvements.

As I understand it, it's a legal technicality since Summit County has the power to issue bonds for virtually any purpose, but it falls outside current regulations or something. The important thing is that they're not asking for State money, just permission to issue bonds guaranteed by the Port Authoirty which are to be repaid by the developers.

It's hard to imagine what objection the legislature could possibly have, but then this is the government so who knows? Wolsteins group does have a good deal of political clout, and the local politicans are all for it (since no tax dollars wil be spent) but politics is still politics.

After that happens, and Lord only knows where that stands, all the really big hurdles will have been cleared. I recall them expecting action by September or October.

YAWN, there is nothing happening in Cleveland Soccer. Can someone please tell us something!

I did drive down Route 8 in Macedonia on Monday (7/31). There are developer signs on the site saying "Future site" and "Lifestyle Center".

Also very disappointed in the lack of news...I keep checking the PD and the ABJ home pages every morning for something, but alas...nada.

But, good things happen to those that wait...just ask any CLEVELAND sports fan...:)

At least we were still in the first 4 mentioned....

SJ, Philly, Cleveland, St Louis....

Anyways, any more detail on those "Lifestyle Center" signs?

From ESPN.COM today ....

Of the cities up for expansion teams, Cleveland remains atop the list, with a franchise expected to be awarded to that city in the off- season. It well could be joined by a new team in the Bay Area, with Lew Wolff and the Oakland A's having the rights to expand back into that market.

Halftime of the All-Star Game, Garber mentioned Cleveland as being in the lead for the next franchise.
Do we know who the owner will be, location for the stadium finalized?

Check out the post in this room regarding the Lifestyle Center. It has pictures of the site. The site straddles Northfield Center Township and Macedonia directly off Route 8.

A friend of mine on city council in a large western suburb says Cleveland is a done deal. He says one of his son's soccer coach is one of the investor's in the team. My friend is reliable -- never met the soccer coach.

This is some of the best news I have heard in a long time. Garber has made me wait and wait. I cant wait for the MLS to be in Cleveland. Even though I am a poor college kid in Tennessee I will make the trip up to my birth city for their first game and the opening of their SSS ( if they are forced to start in the Browns Stadium)

I agree....come on CLEVELAND!

But, I will believe it when I see it. I am still a bit concerned about the lack of news lately...I think it (the MLS complex/lifestyle center) would be a great addition to an already diverse and dynamic metro area.

Guys... please be patient with the "lack of news"...

We don't have to know everything right now...

There are a lot of things that must be ironed out before things can be discussed, opined upon, or announced... there are things going on behind the scenes that can be harmed by any sort of news being leaked... negotiations with potential investors in other cities, negotiations with sponsors, discussions with current clubs, and other matters all stand to be affected by the wrong type of information coming out to the public... any of you who have been in these boards for any length of time recognize the "60-90 days" sarcasm as it relates to the NY Stadium announcement... that was partly due to the type of "news" that some are seeking at this time...

So be patient... appreciate the tiny bit that Garber spilled on Saturday and take it for what it's worth... and be excited by the prospect that we might be hearing the news we all want to hear sometime in the near future...
