View Full Version : The state of RSL supporter groups

First thing first, this thread is not to discuss which supporter group is better than the other, nor which group is bigger or louder than the other. This is simply to get an idea of the state of RSL supporter groups.
Are we growing, are there more groups out there than last year? Or has the newness worn off and are we shrinking or do we have less groups than last year?
Of course we have the RCB and the Loyalists. However, are there any other groups out there?
Last year there were the beginnings of at least a couple of other groups. The Jesters made front page of the City Weekly. I remember also hearing about a latin group maybe going by the name Barra Brava. There were also a couple of small groups going by the name Red Menace and the Red Men.
But this year I think they have all but disappeared.
Attendance at RSL games is still strong but I am surprised to see less supporter groups this year than last, I thought this year I would be seeing other groups of fans with big flags or banners but I don't.
The RCB is still going strong. Probably about the same number of members from last year or maybe a few more. The Loyalists are about the same as last year. We have lost several members but it seems like a few new people keep showing up so we are about even.
Overall though I think things could be better since it seems we have lost these new upstart groups.
What does everyone else think?

We are growing.
I know, cliche, however:
The supporters groups have cooled off big time because of the Win/Loss ratio.
Pretty much point blank.
They'll come out of the woodwork once RSL decides to give undying effort for the full 90. As of right now, RSL plays strong for about 45 minutes.
I haven't seen or heard anything of the Jesters this season. The Loyalists, the RCB and the "Samba" crew or whatever they're called are the only supporters groups that are active and weathering the storm. (that I know of anyway.)
Where did the Salt Lake Hooligans run off to? :D Bunch of dweebs.

The Jesters are still around -- a few of them comment on my blog every now and then -- but they were never really into the whole banners-and-matching-shirts thing, were they?

Actually they were, they had matching shirts, (their logo was a jester's hat) and they had one of the bigger banners in the stadium. It was the one that said "Fuerza Real" that hung in the NorthEast corner.

Not trying to cause a fuss...but this needs to be said...
It appears that the RCB are growing and that the Loyalists are floundering. I hate to be brutal, but it appears that the Loyalists leadership has fallen off (almost no contact during the off-season to prepare for this season...a website that hasn't been updated in over a month...etc.)
Now, I am not faulting any of the very nice individuals who are in the leadership roles, I know their hearts are in the right spot. With that being said, nothing destroys an organization faster than inattentive leadership.
So what needs to happen? We need to find some people with the same amount of time and energy to put into the Loyalists as the leaders did last year. Look what is happening with the RCB. They are excited and it all comes from the top down. So who has the bigger, louder, more excited group at the game? Who has the better tail-gate? Who is growing?
I wish I had the time to volunteer myself...I don't...but something must be done if the Loyalists want to survive as a supporters group. If not, well, some will join the RCB, some will do their own thing...it will just be sad to see the first supporters group continue to slowly disappear.

I've noticed the same trend but lack of time and passion is not the problem.

Who has the better tail-gate?
I don't know who has the better tailgate, but I do know that we (the RCB) had BBQ goat for the tailgate today. utah_heretic purchased 1/2 a goat from an African market in Salt Lake and grilled it up...tasty delicious. Thanks heretic!

Tonight was probably the best I've seen the Loyalists this year.
Maybe it was the fireworks that brought everyone out but hopefully it continues. Perhaps also with the World Cup ending more will come to Real to get their soccer fix.
A win by Real would be nice though too.

After a slow showing at the start of the year I have to say the Loyalists recovered towards the end of the year with some strong showings and then it was taken to the next level with the giant over the head flag.

However, in case nobody has noticed, the Loyalists website has expired. Opps.

Speaking of that, should we give the thing a name? Something that we can all call it that everybody recognizes? Loyalists Little Rag? LLR for short? Any other ideas?
PS - Cup, I like your...sig (or subtitle...or whatever that thing under your name is called). I'm going to out biggest loser you though.

It's always been The Big Flag, from the time before it barely existed in the fans thoughts. It can't change names now. Once The Big Flag, always The Big Flag.
Err, at least, that's my vote.

What happens when you get a bigger flag. Will that be called the bigger flag or the very big flag.:D

Ill most likely be heading up to the UofU for college in a year and a half , so I will be seeing all of you at the games.
ill be looking at season tickets with one of the supporters groups...
have there been any efforts to combine the RCB and the loyalists ?

They were originally all one group, but broke into two groups for the health of both. You're welcome to join both, however, you should sit with both during a game and see which you feel more affinity towards before you decide which one to join. At least that's my suggestion.
