I have a memory to read an article that said she used to not very into sports.

But it seems like that she is now one of the big supporters of their national team.

I guess I'm getting old... I actually thought she, a freaking CDU politician, came of as likeable in a post-game interview yesterday... that would have never happened to me a few years ago :D.
I'm pretty sure football isn't among their main interests though...

I find it scary that this woman would lead Germany. Anyone else?
Please, no mention of Bush necessary. I've been terrified for 6 years.

This bitch has racistic roots and her Party, the CDU is real Power greedily
More taxes, money for state, money for the capitalists means more corrupt policy!
Blatter and Beckenbauer are old vultures, too.
I believe they appointed the Champion before the World Cup started
The FIFA must be have the Center outside of Europe!
In a non-capitalist state please!!!

Politicians always try to use sports for themselves/their party.
I would prefer not to see these glory-hunters,
but thatīs life.

She`s a politician. She like to grin in cameras.
She knows nothing about soccer except that it`S played with a ball.
She even looks like a nerd when she tries to clap her hands.
Could somebody please throw an airplane on her, maybe when she is sitting in parlament?

Sebo, interpreting your posts, you obviously are from Turkey, but you live in germany.
When everything is so bad in our country, why don't you go back to your homeland? Or do you follow the "best of both worlds" strategy?
Btw. I have to praise the CDU for not allowing as much parasites and cadgers as e.g. the greens

So, I got a warning, but you are still allowed to post your crap?
It's a strange world/board we live in....
And considering Angela Merkel you should know, that the success of our team has a huge effect on the economy and the mood in Germany. Therefore she is well advised to root for them, and do that in public.

Bla bla bla...
So that was the last time, i celebrate with germans, sorry!
There are many ways a foreigner can live in another country, and there are situations where foreigners draw ire without having done anything to provoke it.
But when you run around proclaiming that the chancellor is a racist and that you hate capitalism, and that, of course, everybody thinks what you do, well, frankly, I'm not surprised somebody like you would happen to find trouble. I don't like Angela Merkel. I didn't vote for her. But you are just waaay out of line.
You know, it's for people like you that they have the special Lufthansa flights. You know, the ones with the extra pillow and the handcuffs. Enjoy your trip. They'll throw you in prison the moment you get home with the way you run your mouth off, you're lucky that kind of shit still flies in Germany.

There's already a bad blood between you and Sebo or what? What he wrote was a mere personal opinion of a prime minister of a country he happens to live in.I wouldn't mind seeing some non-Japanese saying something like that about our Prime Minister at all,let alone immigrants unless it comes from a pure hate for the country. What upset you? That he claimed that the chancellor has a racist root?I don't know the fact. That he hates capitalism?YOUGOTTABEJOKING!!!Or are you jumping on him just because now you know that he's a Turk living in Germany?Keep the rubbish such as the second paragraph among your friends.Shame.

As for politicians attending big sports events,I saw Jacques Chirac in front of the stadium before the Euro 2000 semi-final between France-Portugal.He was clearly having a good time and shaking hands with everyone who came to him.Very jovial person and we forgot about politics a bit there.

You have nothing to be sorry if you want to celebrate with your country. Dont let the thugs win!

He was born in Germany and has much right as you to support or criticize his country.

I get worried when people adopt the tone of your post. His Turkish descent shouldnt be an issue.

I dont know anything about Chancellor Merkel.... or German politics... but I dont see the problem if she wants to sit at a game and support the country she represents politically. Who cares if she is doing it for better ratings? The fact that she is there is still a bonus as it gives a good impression of support for Germany.
If she wasnt there people would no doubt be moaning that she didnt make an effort or cared enough to bother going!

Thatīs nonsense. The success of the german football team has an effect on the mood as long as the WC is on. It certainly has no effect on the economy, only on the propaganda. That Merkel and her clique should use the success of the german NT in any connection to economic issues and for the mood they wish to ignite for their political decisions is just disgusting. But then Schröder tried the same trick four years ago. At least Gerd was a former football player. Not that it makes his politics or the same old propaganda stunt anymore amiable.
Iīm actually pretty tired of all these comments on "new patriotism". As if football had anything to do with patriotism. I hold it with Paul Weller and the Style Council: "Declare yourself an Internationalist". Unless an international Cup is on and Germany plays.
What is this "new patriotism" supposed to be anyway? Am I supposed to get emotional when they raise the flag? Am I supposed to support German soldiers in Afganisthan, when I never thought they had any business there anyway and their engagement is against the german constitution? Am I supposed to fall in love with Merkelīs crackdown on the german social system? Am I supposed to forget about unemployment? Am I supposed to identify with Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Bertelsmann or Siemens? Will the german economy fall into a deep crisis if I prefer British Motorcycles over german cars, French films and philosophy over german ignorance, Italian food over Schweinebraten, American RīnīB over German Poprock?
Ach, what the hell. Bring on the Azurri. I may even put on a German Team Jersey.
