We've never had a game where a ref's call hasn't hurts us. Maxi was upended in the box, and he gets carded for diving instead of getting a PK like it should have been. This could be down to a leniency towards the home team, or a simple dislike towards Argentina, since it happens every single time.
What's worse, Pato getting injured really hurt us. He's grown on me after this WC, tremendously. He got hurt, and he still got up to catch ball after it fell to Ballack for the header.
Pekerman made two horrible substitutions in this game: taking out Romy (should have taken out Lucho, who didn't do much of anything), and not bringing in Messi (could have replaced Maxi and given us a three man attack).
Good think Pekerman is leaving after this. He's not a bad manager, but Argentina has better to choose from, not least of them Ramon Diaz, or Carlos Bianchi, or why not, bring back Basile, who's done a great job with Boca.

It is time for the new generation.
I want to see Messi wearing Mardona's 10 like he should. I want to see him play the entire 120 minutes. I want to see a team build around him. Such a shame that he never got to show what he got. I cannot wait to see him start next season with Barca. I salivate on every one of his touches.
This is the end of the line for Crespo and Ayala. They have done a helluva job ( and I do not mean this the Bush way ). Also probably the end for Riquelme who has not performed up to his standard in his World Cup. This is the sad truth.
For my money Messi, Aimar, D'Alessandro and even Veron would have done a better job. Do not get me wrong, I am a huge Riquelme fanatic but he was just way to slow and predictable. I am not trying to deny that he set up most of our chances. He is one of the best players in the world. It just did not happen for him this year.
The future is bright. Usari, Aguero, Tevez and Gonzalo among others. We have gained valuable experience in this tournament. Peker is indeed a great coach.

The problem for Argentina is that their playmakers NEVER play up to potential in World Cups. Veron was anonymous in 2002 and Riquelme was very average in this year's installment.
I personally think it might be time for Argentina to stop elevating players to this "playmaker" status that the offense so heavily relies on. Perhaps two box to box midfielder types would do wonders to prevent man marking out of games. The myth of a second coming of Maradona is haunting this team and nation.
The problem in this WC, for my money, is that Riquelme was easily marked out in the middle because the opposition knew that Mascherano was chained to defensive duties.
There is no room for selection and tactical mistakes at this level and leaving Riquelme alone in the middle was a tactical mistake while playing L. Gonzalez was a selection mistake as he offered VERY little today and honestly throughout the tournament.
This was a much improved Argentina squad though and certainly has room to build. Tevez, Messi, and Saviola must learn how to create opportunities at this level as opposed to flattering to decieve.

I'd like to know why we're considered an "attacking" team when we pull shit like today?
Pekerman's errors helped our downfall, but it was nice while it lasted.
Who will take over now?

Basile no! I'm a Boca fan... but god no.. not Basile... he may be doing well, but I don't like him.
Bianchi is the man..
but thank you Pekerman...

Lucho is not a good player IMO. He has shown us nothing, and I don't understand why people like him. Even Cuchu, who fked up the penalties still is better in my eyes.
Lucho=Ortega=useless...

Basile already had his chance. I'd like to see Bianchi.

I think we'd all like to see Bianchi, but he's gone from managing I think. That's what he said after he was sacked from At. Madrid, and he said anyway that he was retiring entirely when he reached 60 (which would be before the next WC anyway).
Thusly, I think Ramon Diaz might be the only logical option left anymore.

Nah.. I doubt it.. I love Ramon, and I would love to see that happen.. But with the Bosteros, it seems almost impossible.. They would go crazy if he became the NT coach.. I think Maradona is going to become our coach.. I don't want to see that, but I think that is what's going to happen.. If not him, we'll probably see Bianchi or Basile.

Yeah.. Me too. :D

It's never a good idea to keep a coach for more than one WC, no matter how you cut it.
And what's wrong with Ramon? What isn't there to trust? What makes Bianchi a better choice? River was at it's best with him at its helm, and the same thing can be said about Bianchi. Bosteros, for once look past la Banda and look at the man, he's a great manager.
And this is also because of politics. Just because Menem backed him doesn't mean we should let politics force us into choosing Maradona.

He did great things for River but I do not believe he has the abilty to direct a national team.
Please Pekerman stay: WE ALL LOVE YOU.

Ok, just a note to lift the head and be positive: Messi is Argentinian!!! I am sure he will still grow a lot in the coming years, and wear the nr 10 of Diego to lead us to more Copa Americas and WC.
Aguante Argentina!!!

Same could be said about Bianchi, who has managed to completely ******** up both times he managed in Europe.

I agree. That is why we need Pekerman to stay. And maybe convince him to start Messi, Tevez and Aguero TOGETHER. As much as I admire what he did for Argentinian football, I have a feeling that he would rather start with Figeroa and Saviola come next tournament

eh?
What has Pekerman done? He never won with a club, and a kiddy tournament doesn't even come close to Libertadores or Apertura/Clausura.

Sorry but that is completely ABSURD.
Pekerman has done more than any coach in Argentina's history! Nourishing our young talents and preparing them for the world stage in the best possible way. The players own much of their success to Pekerman. His achievements cannot be denied.
Did we ever have a better foundation than in this World Cup ? The players could not be more prepared mentally. Pekerman's tactics have been very effective for most parts.
He did make some crucial mistakes in his substitutions but that should not overshadow his ability to coach.

What's absurd is your blind confidence. I don't want to flame a fellow Argentine, but you're seriously looking for it. Pekerman cost us the game today, and he's unfit to continue. He no longer has the luxury of nurturing future talent, and in fact, it could be because of a preference towards his ex-youth players that we had call ups that shouldn't have been there, or players that should have been there but weren't (Franco over Lux for one).
The simple truth is that the man is right, he did all he could for Argentina, and it's time to let someone new cmoe in and build off the platform that Pekerman has left, which is a very solid one. Messi, Tevez, Mascherano, amongst others, are going to be the backbone of Argentina's 2010 team, and it's thanks to Pekerman that they'll be there (in part). But it's time for a shake up, especially now that the old guard (Ayala, Sorin, Crespo, and even Riquelme) are leaving.
