Nice work. We had some similar experiences.

I saw that trophy in the airport too and couldn't figure out what it was at first.

Perhaps not a joke was what looked like the Japanese squad's ball bag on the same carousel and nobody from the team to claim it.

I hadn't realized the US team was staying in Essen. We stayed there too, but didn't get into town until game day.

My friends and I walked that same avenue of riverside apartments in Frankfurt on our last day there and got a big kick out how many were outside on their balcony watching the Argentina-Mexico match. We speculated about the costs of those places.

We also saw that US fan "party house" on the way up to and from the stadium in K-Town. That was a perfect spot.

We saw the place in K-town, too. Right on the way to the stadium (the long, long walk to the stadium, which was surpassed only by the long, long walk to the station after the police closed a bunch of logical routes).

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad folks are enjoying it.

It's always interesting to hear when people had similar experiences and how they differed at all.

Nice blog. I was in Rüdesheim for a few days; touristy but quite beautiful. And I, too, ran into Frankie Hejduk in a beer line, this time at the US-Ghana game. The guy gets around!

We saw him too at the Ghana game buying a beer.
In Rudesheim, we ran into Dave Dir.

LOL. :p

I got a picture of Frankie and I in the beer line at the Czech game.

I also saw Dave Dir in the beer line at the Italy game.

Okay so I was in the beer line a lot.

Did anyone see Gibbs? I haven't heard of any reports of him being at the games but, with his career in Germany and not being able to play or train, that he would have been there also.
