according to the ever delightful Mr McKay-
Wigan striker Jason Roberts has rejected claims from Dave Whelan that he has not been telling the truth about his contract situation.
Roberts is looking to leave Wigan after turning down the club’s offer of an extension last month.
The powerful striker was unhappy with the terms on offer and news of his possible availability alerted a number of clubs including Besiktas and Charlton.
Whelan hit out at Roberts, accusing the player of being dishonest by not telling the whole story regarding his contract.
The Wigan owner claims the club have not even offered Roberts a new contract and that they are dismayed with his actions.
Roberts is unhappy with the accusations and hopes that Wigan will let him leave, with Charlton leading the race for his signature.
The player’s agent Willie McKay was bemused by Whelan's accusations and revealed Roberts just wants to move on and get on with his career.
“I think Dave Whelan is a little mistaken in saying the club did not offer Jason a new contract,” McKay told skysports.com.
“Jason doesn’t want to get involved in a war of words with Dave Whelan or Wigan as they have been great to him and he has enjoyed his time there.
“Dave Whelan has done a great job with Wigan bringing them from nowhere to The Premiership and we need people like Dave Whelan in the game.
“Wigan are looking to bring in a new striker and Jason feels the time is right to move on.
“Jason just wants to draw a line under it and move on to Charlton.”
