View Full Version : FIFA President: England too boring for top side

This must be somewhere else on the England boards, but I can't find it. I'm referring of course Blatter's recent blather as follows:
"I am happy that the play is very offensive. The only exception is England who fielded just one striker in their second round match," he said. "That is not the kind of offensive football you would expect from a title contender."
Irrespective of the substance, these comments strike me astonishingly inappropriate for the FIFA president. He is not a sports critic -- he should not be making such judgements publicly. If nothing else, consider that he is the ultimate boss of every "impartial" referee and linesman -- that alone should preclude him from singling out a team as unworthy of winning the Cup.
I guess I'm wondering: where's the outrage?

Well it's Blatter, he is always saying silly things. Although we have not played well, there has been far too much made of it. England is certainly not the only team to have not played as well as hoped, or to be involved in games which weren't good for the neutral. As for 1 striker, a lot of teams use that - Portugal, France and Italy to name a few.
As long as we are winning there are a significant number of people who will find something about us to complain about :D If we play exciting football then people say the team is tactically naive for giving opponents a chance, the team plays defensive and people say they are boring and cynical.

I'm just glad that Blatter didn't suggest England wear tighter uniforms to increase their popularity.

Didn't you hear? FIFA want Sven to wear nothing but a black thong and some nipple tassel's, in the dugout.

No one pays Blatter the slightest bit of attention.

Schlep Blather has proven over the course of this tounament, that he needs to find a nice quiet retirement home.
Who gets the job next - Beckenbauer?

This prick gave Ivanov a yellow card - what fcukin chance do you stand when the people who employ you, publicly condemn you?
In my world, it's called harrassment and a grievance would be taken out - and Septic Fatarse, would have to sit at home (on full pay), while it was investigated and he was found guilty.........
He would then appeal and win his appeal on the basis that, no-one had ever pulled him up, for being a cvnt before - we might have suggested he's a cvnt, that he buys votes, writes-off millions, mismanages finances, likes girls in tight costumes and fancy gongs, but we've never taken him to task over it, so it is custom and practice and he is as innocent as George Davis.........
Good old Honest Joe......

He's supposed to be the FIFA President not a football critic or writer.
He needs to shut his mouth at times.

That is a little baffling that the FIFA president can and does say things like that. Even calling out a team for playing negative, dirty football is too far... let alone criticising simply because a team plays a defensive 4-5-1? I don't see what the big deal is - so what if they're boring... at least they're not playing dirty.

I don't care how boring England's play has been.
All I know is whether it reads 1-0 or 5-1 I feel good that England are winning.

It's just so patently inappropriate and buffoonish. I mean, if England wins the Cup is he going to hand it over with a grimace and an implicit "You don't deserve this" message? Answer -- perhaps not the former, but definitely the latter. There are some things one just can't do -- this was one of them. He makes FIFA seem like some banana republic and cheapens the World Cup in the process with a comment like this.

I think you'll find he's trying to deflect attention from the growing clamour for someone at FIFA to be held accountable for the refereeing shambles they in effect mandated for this competition.

David Beckham, Gary Neville and German legend Franz Beckenbauer have all hit out at Fifa boss Sepp Blatter for criticising England's performances. "I don't listen to Sepp Blatter and I don't want to listen," said Neville.
El Presidente of the Fifa banana republic Herr Blatter just doesnt like the English or the FA.

German legend Franz Beckenbauer hinted he will stand for Uefa president next year.
Brazil legend Pele: "England have not played as badly as some critics suggest. The fans expect too much sometimes. Blatter is a 'fan' now?

He's supposed to be unbiased and yet here he is demeaning a very good team, I just don't get his motive.
