View Full Version : The next 4 Years...

Gotta admit, the previous four years were fun...
Basking in the glow of a #7 finish in the Far East
In summer 2003, we enjoyed watching our team in France...the European giants played in America, and we cheered as T-Ho got the ManU starting jersey...
In 04, Beasley, Boca and Convey packed their bags, while GAM scored goals in buckets
In 05, Convey put it together, Gibbs got the nod and Deuce had the stuff.
So, what do we look forward to between now and qualifying ?

Here's the goals I'd like to set:
1. Continue on the great example set by the folks in Germany, establish a true home field advantage
2. 35,000 attendance (or sell-out of a smaller venue) with 90%+ US support for all home WCQs
3. 15,000 in South Africa
4. Away WCQs--1500 in Azteca, 750 in Costa Rica/Jamaica/T&T, 250 in Guatemala/Honduras, 20,000 in Canada (10,000 if they put it in Edmonton) or 75% pro-US support
5. Spread active support of the team throughout the ENTIRE stadium, not just designated "supporters sections"

1. Continue the growth and craziness in our support of the USMNT.
a. Make each game a party like what we had in Germany (yanks abroad, town centers with masses of Sams Army.
b. We must awaken the US, ESPN, ABC to promote WC qualifying games like the World Cup Finals. The casual fan needs to understand the impact of qualifying like how they are coming around to US support in the Finals.
c. AWAY SUPPORT in qualifying
2. Friendlies - have plenty of worthy opponents (tough task)
a. Schedule solid European sides in Europe (Czech Rep., Ireland, Scotland, Switzerland)
b. We must have friendlies v South American and African sides
3. Baltimore Supporters Club (Sams Army Brigade)
a. With the huge support of US soccer and soccer in general in Bmore, we need to form a Supporters Club, whether it be Sams Army - Baltimore Brigade or a less formal one.
b. Attract viewing parties at certain locales / Form away trips
c. Website
d. pick-up soccer league
- With no home team in Baltimore except the Crystal Palace Baltimore FC in 2007, we need to band together as a USMNT Supporters club. I know many Baltimoreans are DC Utd supporters, but this cat just can't root for any other team but a Baltimore side in the US. I hope that Crystal Palace will survive in a town where fans need to have the major league feel - not a perceived minor league side.

Good idea there....
I do websites and have some open server space. Let's get Sean (Baltimorengr) in on it, as well.
And, we can enlist WNST to try to get a friendly at M&T.

Well I am up for getting a Baltimore area network going that would kick in with tailgates, etc for friendlies and qualifiers. I think unfortunately M&T would be too small field-size wise, and they have field-turf so USSF might not be up for it. There was a Chelsea DC United thing at FedEx field I think.
My big goal next cycle is to travel to one or more away qualifiers; new for me.
My latest thoughts were to consider making any network more of a Maryland thing. There are lots of Rockville, Frederick etc. posters so they may feel more included if it wasn't only Baltimore. I was also thinking "Fort" might be a cool twist on a group name type. Having a big banner for bars, parking lots and stadiums that included something like:
WE ARE THE
YANKS!
Fort Maryland
Talk to you soon

My 8 friends and I made Germany our first trip as a group to support the US. SSS Tours is now in effect. (Sh*t-Show Soccer Tours).
We have found a hotel and rental cars in Caracas for next summer, eying flights, and are awaiting news of our entrance into Copa America 2007. We will be there in South Africa.
Of the guys who have requested to be considered for Venezuela, 2 didnt play soccer past the age of 9, two never played. Another baseball player who didnt go to Germany wants in. It's the only way to go, I recommend doing similar things with all of your buddies as well. Great way to see the World! (and cheap too)

I am cool with Maryland, but maybe I am too much of a provincial Baltimorean. To me Baltimore has a rich soccer history and tradition. I just wanted to run with that in having a group of US Supporters under a Baltimore Banner, but Maryland is fine with me... Anything to unite us all under the Free State. I have a feeling that something is brewing here and it would be nice if we could get something informal together in the near future.

I'm already starting to save up for Mexico City and South Africa , ( im only 16 so i have to start my saving now ) and I want to make it to as many home qualifiers as my budget will allow .
I hope our team continues to improve and play and beat some good opponents .
Win our qualifying group and pack our bags for S Africa .
Only two years til qualifying begins ....

1. Win in Azteca, preferably in a WCQ.
2. Play more quality friendlies, both home and abroad, against European and South American teams. I would love to have the US play a handful of friendlies in Ktown, that was truly our home away from home.
3. Better TV coverage. With ESPN now paying MLS for broadcast rights, hopefully we will see improvment from them.

I also plan on attending South Africa in 2010. I have 4 years to save up, and I already got my fiance to commit to two weeks over there.
