1) The Getty Museum is a must-see.
2) This is the only worthwhile tour in LA:
Grave Line Tours
Take a hearse ride to over 80 notorious Hollywood death and murder sites.
722 N Orlando Ave Ste 200, Los Angeles, CA 90069
323 469-4149
3) Take Dan Loney out to eat.
The rest of the city sucks.

Dan Loney doesn't need any free meals.
Take him on a run.

Dude LA sucks.
Other than the Dodgers, LA has nothing to offer.
Hollywood.....overrated.
Clubs...........overrated.
Beaches.......overrated.
Take Dan Loney out to eat, challenge my bro Various Styles in a "cascarita" (pick up game-soccer) and then rent an Expedition and cruise it on up to VEGAS.

I'm going to the Galaxy home opener and made a 5 day trip out of it.
Day one: Fly into Vegas and gamble.
Day two: Wake up in Vegas and gamble.
Day three: Wake up in Vegas and gamble, rent a car, drive to LA for the game, watch the game, get back in car and drive back to Vegas and do more gambling.
Day four: Wake up in Vegas and gamble.
Day five: Wake up in Vegas and gamble, fly home.
This exact trip will be repeated for the MLS Cup.
I hate L.A.

Seriously, LA is highly overrated. Unless you have a specific agenda when you get there, be ready to spend loads of time in your car. In the summer you can expect loads of traffic, heat and smog. Sure there are some nice enjoyable and interesting places, and things to do in LA, but you will pay the price for it when your sitting in bumper to bumper traffic in 95 degree heat, breathing in smog, trying to get to and from places.
Come to San Francisco instead, decent public transport, loads of culture, great food, beautiful views, awesome nightlife. Plus the fog keeps things nice and cool in the summertime.

Griffith Park Obervatory is cool, especially if you're a James Dean fan.

Ok, I'll say something postive too, the Peterson Automotive museum is pretty cool.

Don't listen to these Phillistines. LA is a very cool place to visit. Just remember a couple of things:
Hollywood is in fact very overrated. Plan to come into Hollywood for about an hour, tops. Do the Hollywood Boulevard walk thing for that hour, and then leave. Nothing else to see there anymore.
You have to go to Sunset Blvd., find one of what seems like 6 million cafe's, and sit outside and just watch. You'll enjoy yourself.
When you want to go to the beach, don't bother with the Santa Monica Pier. Head out to Malibu. You'll love the ride on the PCH, and the beaches are great.
And, most importantly, don't even think about getting onto the 405. No matter what!

First it depends on what you like to do. Are there plenty of places to hang out on Friday and Saturday, of course. Head for Hermosa Beach. It's a cool environment to check out the ladies and have a few beers. Avoid Hollywood unless you want to say you've at least been there once in your life. It is really overrated unless you plan on going to a club, which I don't recommend unless you are familiar with the club scene in LA. There are plenty of things to see and do, just don't plan on doing things which really don't interest you, like going to an art museum if you don't really like art. Griffith Observatory I believe is closed for the next couple of years for renovation.

Hollywood is a total dive. Don't even bother doing the Hollywood walk thing. There comes a point when seeing a star's name in glittery cement stops becoming overwhelmingly exciting. Personally it was about 30 yards. It would have been sooner but it took that long to find a 'star' that I've heard of. Also don't believe those tourist brochures saying that the Hollywood sign dominates the area. It doesn't. It's about three miles away and you can't even see it from most of Hollywood as there are buildings in the way.
I liked Santa Monica though. The people there said it is one of the few genuinely safe places to be at night - just as well as I got totally rat-arsed in one of the bars and walked off blindly in the wrong direction for 20 minutes before I'd even realised I hadn't got a clue where I was going. The beach is overrated. Forget those tales of it being full of blonde beach babes. It's actually full of guys looking for those blonde beach babes and being a bit disappointed. And if you're a cheapskate and don't want to hire a car - you can get there for just 40c on the bus from the airport.

Ya, if you want the blonde babes you need to head to Huntington Beach which isn't that close or you you may have some luck in the South Bay cities, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach.

Venice Beach was like taking all the people who will never talk to Axis Alex in college, and put them in one geographic area and have them sell tie dye tee shirts and art made from beer cans.
I am a San Diego fan all the way- just that it's too damn small.

I'm from London and was in LA last year....I stayed in West Hollywood.
I flew from Fiji to LA and was glad to have a good shower , bed etc.(Fiji was humid). After a day of finding my bearings and came to realise that LA is one helluva hard place to get around.
The Getty was good, really good.
Contrary to popular belief i felt pretty safe there, but there isn't much to see it is too spread out, it's like 10 different average size cities rolled into one huge one!
San Francisco was magic tho'!

Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles,(Hollywood) if you are hungry at around 2am, you can see a lot of rappers and Lakers there, the food is good, and the lady's are hot!
I hate the Galaxatives, but LA is a fun place to hang, food is great, the women, let me tell you, every other chick is hot, Sunset has some coo clubs, and they even have the Hustler Casino, i think that's 24hours. If you want some crazy off the hook fun, come up to San Francisco, you can go all night, and it might be easier for you to get some poon.

Truth has been spoken. I live there. I know. The area around the pier and promenade really aren't that interesting. That's what I suspect is being described above.
If you want to get a better sense of Santa Monica then had over to the Ocean Park neighborhood. There's some off-beat shopping on Main Street, lot's of good food and some interesting people. That area is adjacent to Venice beach so it's easy to combine both neighborhoods in a few hour's visit.
