The chemistry from last season is missing. It took them awhile to find it then, but I have no faith in them to find it with Veh running the show.

Then again, they way things are going in the board room at Schalke, Magath might be available again sooner rather than later.......

The guys rose to the occasion tonight. Not a shock.

However, they need to find that same level in the league too.

Only good during 35minute to 45 minute, first half time, and then when Grafite scored his 3rd one. Quality pass from Misimovic, Grafite knowing it, goal: Wolfsburg Rückrunde 2008/2009.

Against every other team with more experience and more cleverness the result would have looked different. Nonetheless, I hope that victory gives them a boost,...Veh shoudl drop his concept, and just copy the Magath system again.

MOTM Grafite

Schäfer against Krasic, most of the time outplayed.

Congrats to Grafite and especially the team for winning the first match guys! :)

Do you think they might gain confidence from this performance as some of the counter attack reminded me of what they did so well last year?

maybe, maybe not. It was good for them that they started off at home to get their feet wet into the tournament. We will see if that comes back to bite them when they go away from home.

We won't know until the next league match. It's easy to give a spirited performance during your first home CL match.

As I said, they rose to the ocassion. It helped that they didn't have the most difficult opponents too.

But we might not be able to tell after the next Bundesliga match either.

If I am not mistaken, VfL's next league match is on Friday against Magath and Schalke, so I expect them to be fired up for that too.

So I guess I'm saying only time will tell. LOL!! :D

BTW, Diego Benaglio has been suspended for your next two Bundesliga matches for his red card against Leverkusen.

He will miss Friday's match at Schalke and your home Niedersachsen Derby against Hannover 96.

actually, they didn't have the hardest nor the easiest opponent but I know what you mean. I would say for them that it is good to get the first match or two out of the way in the CL.

We saw how Liege should have taken out Arsenal today. I would rather play the easy opponents first but then again because they aren't practically eliminated already at that point, those minnows still have fight in them at that point vs a month down the road when 4th place is almost a guarantee for them.

well, he has been. the two goals have not changed that fact.

Perhaps but to use that as a reason as to why they're not doing well is silly.

From what I was able to see, he just sucked. Probably nerves, but I also never thought Fabian was ready for this level of competition just yet.

Magath would have been the perfect coach to bring him along.

I followed his career very closely the past couple of years at 1860.

Wolfsburg would have done themselves and the kid more justice by loaning him back to 1860 for this season.
