Even if a big team like Milan comes knocking with a hefty transfer sum?

Yeah! It's not like they need the money.

Its possible to hold onto him for another season but if he has another great season next year big clubs will surely offering their purse.

Again, it's not like Wolfsburg needs the money. They've got VW backing them. Haven't you read any of the previous conversations?

If they want to keep a player to continue winning, they can.

It's not like other clubs who make their money solely in football........

It wouldn't be money drawing Dzeko to other clubs if Wolfsburg wants to spend to keep him, it would be the lure of a "traditional name."

And these days, if Wolfsburg is winning, that won't matter either.

People have spent so much of this season bitching and complaining about Dietmar Hopp that they haven't looked to see that Felix Magath has built a championship contender in Wolfsburg with VW's money.

Yeah, you are right, Wolfburg is a sh*t f*cking capitalist money mashine without tradition, too. But at long as Bayern and Hamburg won´t become champion, I am ok with them. :p

back to the match:
I like the headline of an 11freunde-article:
"The big evil wolf swallowed Little Red Riding Hood." :D

Oh, dude, I don't have a problem with the money or Wolfsburg just like I don't with Hoffenheim.

But I do hate that Wolfsburg isn't getting the brunt of the hatred nearly as much as Hoffenheim and Hopp did before they hit their rough patch.

However, I do believe the DFL/DFB needs to do something to level the playing field.

I just don't know whether that is eliminating "50+1" or making "50+1" retroactive so that Wolfsburg, Leverkusen and anyone else being privately sponsored would fall under it.

I know. Someone will say, they can't "retroactivally change the rule!"

Yes they can. They did it with transfer rules when they eliminated the "tapping up" rule to keep from having to punish Bayern when Bayern was caught red-handed breaking those rules.........

I don't think that was Borussia meant.
He's talking about Bayer's, Hoffenheim's and Wolfsburg's special status.
While it's not allowed to own a club in the Bundesliga that's basically what happens at these clubs and it puts all other clubs at a disadvantage.

i don't think hoffenheim has any special status. they just have a rich guy who gives them the money.

any other club could do this under current rules as well, it's just that there aren't many (if any) billionaires like hopp who are willing to give their money to the club without owning and controlling it.

VfL Wolfsburg has a tradition and a history. It may not be as storied as some other clubs, but it does have one.

And since VW took over, in 2001, I believe, its not like they have been splashing money all around to my knowledge. Effenberg and D'Alessandro are the only big signings I can think of.

And the team hasn't been buying championships or anything like that. Up until last year they were fighting off relegation and just barely.

I'll be the first to admit though, I don't pay close attention to the transfer fees.

60 millions transfer deficit are clearly top of the league in the last two years (twice as much as Bayern or Hoffenheim). But as at Hoffenheim the money was
invested in good players and not burned like at some EPL clubs, so cudos for the good work.

Clubs like Hannover and Gladbach can't lose money season after season without feeling the effects, Wolfsburg can and even spent more the following season. They can afford to experiment and buy a flop from time to time. Other clubs can't.

They should change that and Martin Kind and a few other managers are talking about this.
aha. i totally misunderstood.

i don't know that it's that big of an issue (or is as big of an issue as some are making it out to be). VW has owned the team for years now and just as recently as last year they were down in danger of relegation for a time. and you can't tell me that Bayern's budget is less than 60M euro. practically their whole damned team are internationals.

as for losing Dzeko... i don't see it happening. like someone else said, the only reason for him to leave would be to play for a big name club. money will not be a factor in his leaving.

In mine and F96's defence: we have been bitching about Wolfsburg for quite some time over in NSR :D.

If you saw a game at the old VfL Stadion, does that count as the beginning, sort of ?

He left the board - some disagreement with the mods. I never got what that was about...

Gladbach was today the better team, very unlucky defeat.

But who wins such matches has a good chance for the title.

How are Barzagli and Zaccardo going? From what I've heard, Zaccardo wants to come back to Italy so I'm assuming he's flopping predictably.

How about Barzagli? Is he somehow doing better or is he also another Italian flop?

Barzagli plays a very good season. After a slow start he became very important for Wolfsburg and made their defense solid. Kicker defender ranking (http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/topspieler/saison/2008-09/topspieler_position/2/topspieler_verein/0) supports this impression (no.16 in the ranking).
