View Full Version : Why can't we go for cheaper quality internationals?

I'm thinking about maybe like the KC Wizards do with Simutakenov (sp.) and Fabro. Two years ago they got Molnar who was great. These players are fantastic, and don't have a lot of baggage. I think we have the worst history of SI in the league. Part of the reason has to be that we try to go get big name players. It has panned out once or twice, like Donadoni, but for the majority of the time, we have failed.
Why don't we take this approach, or is it too difficult for the team?

Curcic was the man.... Bora tossed him out and the carpet ate his knee..both none of his faults. He was character for sure but damn that boy had skills.

1. The Revolution seem to have been much worse with foreigners' success.
2. Andy Williams and Diallo are not big names on the international scene, but are doing very well this season. Would you trade them for the two from KC? I wouldn't.
3. I agree with most posters that Metro would be much better if Faria held a green card and did not take up an SI slot.
4. I would like to see Metro sign an 18 year old from Central or South America like Vaca or the new guy DC signed.

Or Ruiz. Those are the type of players I'm talking about. What about Tyson Nunez. Or someone like that.

hard to imagine that we could have internationals of cheaper quality than we currently have.

If we want cheaper, better SIs or junior int'ls, we should have scouts camping out at youth leagues in Honduras, El Sal, and Guatemala. They are among the last frontier for international talent scouts.

the cheaper quality of the internationals. the cheaper quality of play you see at a mls game. If we do that we will be cheap. you pay 22 bucks for a game right? you get what you pay for than. you wont get more than your moneys worth. We dont want cheap playes. We want good players. We want to be one of the top leagues in the world where we could get players like Figo, Zidane, or Raul(just an example im not saying those guys specifically) we wanna be known as a league where the money is at for the player and we will have game play better than the EPL or the scottish league.

No, I don't want those players. I want players who will produce. I'm talking about young guys who will go out there and play. Sure Williams and Diallo are playing, right now. What about next year? Both have a penchant for being disenchanted.
Why can't we get a player like Molnar or Ruiz? Anyone like that would be fine with me.

RBNY is all about marketing. If I know RB they will get there hands on a HIGH profile player at the end of his career (Ronaldo or Beckham or ZZ). The main reason the bought the Metros is it was the worlds most popular sport in the worlds most popular city. Metros were less expensive then the Yankees or Giants. Have no fear they will spend plenty of cash. Red Bull never does anything half a.. He is currently building his own golf course on his private island off of Fiji. The golf thing I haven't confirmed yet so mums the word.

Good point. Do we even have and Jr SI's? We should be down there scouting these places like the yankees scout Dominican islands and Japan. If Canero can't p[lay why not put him on injury, unable to play list and try and get an mls replacment salary waiver or whatever there is for this wasted slot and salary?

Or, we could sign a cheap striker from Haiti for under $80K. Damn, why can't we do that?!?

Are we just lazy or uninformed as a team as to who is available? Do we have any scouts or administrative people even working on this?
