Once again Beckham played rubbish but converts his first free kick in about 1000 tries since he last scored one, which will now mean that his crap preformance will be forgotten. He is a lucky guy. Can anyone think of anything Beckham did the whole match accept the free kick. He doesnt run at his full back, never puts in a good cross, never put a dangerous ball though for someone to go onto. Also as captain Beckham should be 'rallying the troops', but i never see him doing anything.

If Beckham was French/Dutch/Spainish he would have been dropped to the bench from those teams along time ago.

Overall he was ineffective for a large part of the game .But at the end of the day he has delivered the winner.

He was awful first half but I thought he was our best player second-half. He was our best midfielder in the game and did a lot more than Gerrard, Lampard and Cole did. He scored the winning goal and proved to be the difference - be happy with it.

In open play he was pretty poor and most of his free kicks weren't that good. Though to be fair the one he did hit well went in and it was the winning goal.

Right just like France dropped the completely ineffective Zidane. Oh wait, no, he was red-carded.

He did his job, drop it. England easily could have lost in penalties without him on the pitch.

He was pretty much woeful and did nothing going forward which makes it hader for everyone else. Although it was ironic that he scored.

Now we're in a situation where having him in the team hurts our football, yet he is the most proven matchwinner and contributer to scoring. Feels a bit like Brazil and Ronaldo.

It baffles me how beckham was voted real madrids best player this season . He looks completely washed up as a player .

Beckham has not impressed me at all this WC. He has had some good balls, but nothing that would make me stand up and say hey great job. Now his set peices are great that is a given and he is one of the best on them no doubt, but I do not think that is nearly enough.

England all the way!

As a long-term Beckham fan, I've got to say that his goal did nothing to change my view that he no longer justifies his place in the team.

Lennon every time for me.

Isn't it enough you opened a new topic saying exactly this? You have to repeat it here?

You're a sad weird little man, and you have my pity.

I like England, and know the players, but I don't really care if they win or loose (unless they're against the Italians).

I also don't really care about Real or his hype-factor.

That said, I'd like to ask all of the Beckham-haters, who seem to like to single him out as the worst England player, three questions:

Who served the free kick that glanced off of Paraguay to win that game.

Who served the pin-point accurate pass to Crouch that broke Trinidad's spirits after a long and piss-poor game by the English.

And now, the only goal scored by England in the knock out round goes to Beckham -

And you all want to bitch about him? WTF? Why not Lampard? He's be crap this whole WC!

EXACTLY, well said!!!
I know he hasn't been the best on the pitch, however the above statement is all fact, and where has Lamps' been? Where has the other players been, barring Gerrard who has played great and Cole who has at least given it the good old college try, and barring Rooney seeing as he is just coming into it all now and is doing a great job, well why do we always try and find a scape goat?
Beckham is a great passer and he will continue to play and I am sure he'll deliver some more great balls to goals as he has done in every game so far.
VS. Trinidad, vs. Paraguay, Vs. Equador, Vs Sweden...
Vs. Portugal next my English lads keep ur heads up Beckham will do the job and I think that a suggestion of interesting proportions, though drastic and slightly out of place maybe we should consider bringing lennon into the middle replacing Lampard... at least start him out and see what he does, he can't do any worse considering he hasn't added a goal or an assist to his tally...

i'm no beckham supporter, and really felt he should be dropped in favor of aaron lennon, but compared to the absolute dud-ley duo of lampard and gerrard. god before the tournament i thought even without rooney we'd be alright as those two are such great players and score important goals, but they clearly haven't lived up to the world cup hype.

I am not bashing Beckham, he just has not lived up to my expectations. As for the world's expectations I thing that most have a over hyped view of what he should be doing and part of that is too much. As I said in my first post he has had some good balls, but not enough to equal what I personally think he should be putting in as a captain.

I've been on these boards a long time and have a lot of respect for many of the posters, but right now I have to wonder which game they were watching. I paid particular attention to Becks and he was far better than his naysayers are suggesting. He was constantly tracking back on defense and helping with posession. On 2 or 3 occasions he made astute defensive plays, one at about 83 minutes which had he not intervened would have led to a point blank shot from about 12 yards, and it wasn't skill, it was reading the game. He made several runs forward that turned to naught because the ball pass was poorly weighted. The couple that he latched on to, his only support up front was Rooney, who was well marked. He worked hard and tirelessly and capped it off with a fantastic free kick.

At 31, he's past his prime, but that doesn't mean he isn't a constant influence on the game and is still an assett to the team. If the spectacular is all your going to notice, so be it. Then he'll only impress you with goals.

everything you said on there describes frank lampard.

does nuthin the whole game and pops up for a goal to make everyone forget how he played.

at least with becks, u know he works his socks off, always. even if he is playing like crap, he still goes 110%.

there are really no words or ways to describe the beckham hatin in the world.
not just people on this forum, the paraguayan defender who talked trash about becks.

becks has never claimed to be a world beater, he is a very good player, a good passer of the ball and an equally good crosser of the ball. accept it and move on.

If only Beckham had some pace .
he gets easily locked down by opposition defenders these days.

The simple solution is to being Lennon on at the hour mark, not after 85 minutes like the genius Sven does. Beckham was puking on the field and still wasn't brought off for 20 minutes. What does that tell you? He's not going to get dropped. Lennon on for Beckham after an hour, keep the same formation from Ecuador and you have a team that can beat Portugal.
