I was mucking around on www.eloratings.net (http://www.eloratings.net), and found this interesting page:

November 23 2002
Vatican 0-0 Monaco
Friendly in Italy Does anyone know anything else about this game? Is it a bunch of priests who like to play football? Does Il Papa manage the team? How on earth did they manage to pull off a draw against anyone, even if it's only Monaco?

Enquiring minds want to know.

I read that most of the player are from the Swiss Guard, the priests don't play afaik. And they played more than one game, usually against other minnows like San Marino. They even have a Vatican league consisting of 16 teams, but only 5 players on each side. :D

If only the Vatican had a qualification group slot for the 2002 Cup... with the Pope captaining the side
