How are photographers treated by fellow photographers?
There definitely seems to be some close knit fraternity cliques in this business. Generally speaking, people are people, and act rather decently toward one another. But, when it's time to go to work, it can get rather ruthless down on the field.
I must say, I was stationed next to one Italian guy on the end line near the goal, who was extremely pleasant to work next to.
On the other hand, some of the big dogs (such as one AP guy) seem to take liberties trying to scrape out a larger piece of real estate for themselves by pushing the chairs closer together of other photographers near them (of course, this happens when those chairs are not manned... go figure), and then create a wider work area around their own chair. Personally, I don't consider that a "professional" attitude, but hey... the cut throat guys are in every aspect of life. I have experienced this type of turf grab during at least three different matches. Each time I have either reversed the spacing violation when the culprit left to take a leak, or confronted him with his crime. Two dudes working as a tag team (a Brit and an Italian) got shit faced about it, but I firmly told them my problem of being squeezed out by them would either be solved by them, or a Photo Marshall would take care of it. I guess they aren't used to having their bullying confronted, but they got their act together fairly quickly.
In tight cramped quarters, a little cooperation goes a long ways.
Lack of respect sucks... it doesn't matter what arena of life in which it occures. Just like in the general sector, the vast majority of photographers are good eggs. It's the spoiled ones that leave a nasty taste.
