As depressed as the results made me, I was proud of our fans. And I thought I'd pen a little ditty we might sing in the future to remember (and moan) about this tourney.

A long, long time ago I can still remember how 02 used to make me smile and I knew if we had our chance
that we would make even Jim Rome glance
and maybe he'd be quiet for a while
but then 2006 made me shiver
with every goal the czechs delivered,
Attack, we didn't like her,
Arena wouldn't play two strikers,
One game, though, was mighty fine
Even though the ref was blind
but against Italy the sun did shine,
the day, we drew, with nine. So...

Bye, bye Pablo and Pope
Went from Muddy to the Bloody
but the Bloody did try
an our good ole' Kase wouldn't let two by
yellin this is the best game we tied,
This is the best game we tied.

What do you think?

We are clearly on the way. Great lyrics!

When everyone says we are unimaginative fans, it's the little things like this that will slowly but surely give us our unique character and traditions. I watched a '71 Arsenal v Liverpool match on FSC a few weeks ago. The only chants I heard were "Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal...". Kinda reminds me of our favorite chant. This just proves that we aren't any different. We're just at an early stage. If you look at '90 for a starting point, I'd say we're making great progress as a fan base. It's only gonna get better. There was even a noticeable progression (more chants, etc) between the Czech and Italy games. I'd never been at a game where everyone, not just Sam's Army, was doing the "Everywhere we go..." song.

Hey, if Italy wins on sunday, I propose a slight revision...

The Day We Drew the Champs with Nine
(to the begining of American Pie)

A long, long time ago I can still remember how '02 used to make me smile
And I knew if we had our chance,
We would make even Jim Rome glance
and maybe he'd be quiet for a while.
But then 2006 made me shiver,
With every goal the Czechs delivered.
Attack, we didn't like her,
Arena wouldn't play two strikers.
One game, though, was mighty fine
Even though the ref was blind
but against Italy the sun did shine,
the day, we drew the champs with nine. So...

Bye, bye Pablo and Pope.
Went from Muddy to the Bloody
but the Bloody did try.
And our good ole' Kase wouldn't let two by.
Yellin' this is the best game we tied.
This is the best game we tied.
