Isn't Clint Dempsey like 24 years old? Who the hell said he's a decent young player?

Pity for Essien he got the yellow, without him I can't see Ghana beating Brazil, even with Brazil not in top gear.

I did, and 24 is young... if he were 28-29.. then no.
Seriously though, at his age of 24 he's playing well and not near his prime (in age)

hopefully the loss of ghana
a) can be rescinded
b) won't be that big a loss and eric addo will prove an adequate replacement
c) appiah and muntari can take the game to brasil
i think Ghana has an outside chance. at the least it shall be an entertaining game.

What a wonderful post this is! In fact, it is SO wonderful, that apprently, it deserves no moderation whatsoever. NONE! Nada, nunca, zip, zilch, zero, nothing at ALL!
NOTHING! NOTHING WRONG!
Where the hell are the mods? This is RIDICULOUS.
Take it easy - I was just kidding around with the stamp. Get a sense of humor already. I thought it was funny, anyway. But congrats to Ghana for advancing.

Congrats to Ghana for shaming Bruce Arena.
I was very very very unimpressed with the US performance today. I know they had their chances but you have to finish plain and simple.
The US stunk it up against the Czech republic.
The US did a hack job against Italy and pulled an upset tie courtesy of a sorry-ass performance by Italy.
The US floundered against Ghana.
I just hope that is the last I have to experience of Bruce Arena.
He's useless!!!!
Fire him now!!!!!

They have still looked way better than either Ghana or the US.
Brazil should win easily.

24 isn't young...I think of young (in futebol) as 18,19,20,21...22 at the very most. He should be at his best right now developmentally. In terms of consistency he has years to improve upon that. A good question would be...would you refer to a guy like Landon Donovan (same age) as a young player?

btw.
there is still an outside chance that Japans wins with Brasil and Australia beats Croatia with a two goal difference and than Ghana plays Australia in the 1/8 :)

I love all the talk about the formation.
That wasn't the U.S's problem. The problems are:
- vision
- passing
- first touch
- 1 vs 1 skills
- no anticipation of what a teammate's about to do
- inability to cross properly
- inability to shoot from outside
beasely made a great pass in to dempsey, but generally, he was utterly horrific in every game. a complete libability. mcbride did nothing the entire tournament. no threat.
why these two saw so much playing time is beyond me.
awesome quote from part I of the thread.
it wasn't a question of 4-5-1 or 4-4-2. any formation can look effective if excuted properly. and you can score with either. but you need the right players in the right postions doing the right things. the us didn't play through the midfield effectively. they didn't do any of the things which zico28 pointed out. whether it was down to poor tactics or poor players (or both), they failed in almost every aspect of the game (on a consistent level against good opposition). tough to say, but . . .

the ghana-bashing was instigated by those gloating bout the result....
the gloating came about because Ghanaians felt we were getting shitted on by the American media, former US players, and even the fans acting to overconfident and dismissing there opposition.
Pity for Essien he got the yellow, without him I can't see Ghana beating Brazil, even with Brazil not in top gear.
Yellow cards get whiped out for round of 16. sorry your fantasy not going to come true.

depends on which match you look at. on the czech match form they looked just as good if not better than brasil.

Claudio Reyna is the first to be injured on his self-esteem.
He had to get outta field for an honor strain.
Jeff Agoos experienced the same injury, only earlier in the tournament, in '02.
