Ronaldo may look overweight, he may look slow(er) but he still knows where the goal is!

Let's be real...Brazil is going in with the clear advantage. I just ask the Brazil fans not to take Ghana for granted like everyone in Group E did before the tournament started. I believe Ghana has an outside chance of winning, but when you're facing a team like this...you can't help but to think otherwise.

Brazil has been eliminated from tournaments by african teams. Nigeria in 96' and Cameroon in 00'. I know this isnt Olympics but all Im saying is that after these tough eliminations Brazil will not take Ghana for granted. Brazil 2-0 after a helluv tough game.

I think if brazil score first the africans might fold fast, but that said I have high hopes for Ghana giving brazil a run for their money in this game. Just hope the ref doesn't get the result for brazil.

I guess at the end of the day, it's just a question of which Ghana team will show up? You see, one thing that always hurts when being the youngest team in the WC is that you're gonna make "rookie" mistakes. Ghana did not play their 'A' game against the US...but we still won. Be sure though, that Ghana cannot come out against Brazil next week and make those same mistakes, because even though the US couldn't capatilize on it...Brazil damn sure will. We have to come out and play like we did against the Czech Republic (when we played our 'A' game). We have to get in Brazil's face and take it to them. Make THEM play catch up (like Japan, only the key is to keep the lead). I truly believe that when Ghana plays to their full potential...they can contend with anybody! Problem is though, they're not terribly consistent. Hence, I ask the question....which Ghana team is gonna show up to play Tuesday?

The mods will probably leave it a day or so... to put the teams in the title would give away the result of the final group games.

brazil has never lost a world cup game to an african team. the last time brazil played ghana...i think in 96, we won 8-1 or something.
however, im sure most brazilians remember the game against ghana in the 96 olympics. i think it was yeboah who really made us work for our victory.
i think the brazilian players are very aware of ghana. i heard parreira praising them today and he felt that they shouldve beat italy. so, i doubt the players too will underestimate ghana.

The only thing that matters about '96 is for the stat sheet. Both teams now have different players. Besides, this is Ghana's first WC...so how could they have played in '96? You must be thinking about another African team.

i only mentioned them as merely historical records. that's all.
brazil played ghana twice in 96. a friendly and in the olympics.

This will be a great game, one of the best for sure....we both play the same style football and have exciting players on both sides, this will be fun however, i do believe Brasilians are the favourites and the Ghanaians will have to work really hard to come up with a good performance....the return of Muntari and Gyan will help us, but the loss of Essien will definitely cost us

The Ghanians have my sympathies but no cigar. It's a pity for Essien.

8-2, Leonidas, at São José do Rio Preto. From that Brazilian team, only Dida was there - he was the starting goalkeeper. And yes, Ghana was a tough opponent in Atlanta... 4-2 for us.
I agree that the team won't underestimate Ghana. Not with a coach like Parreira, not with veterans who have been humbled before (Olympics, World Cup 1998).

Ronaldo was there... I thought he scored three, but according to the report it's two.
Oh well. :D
At any rate, I wouldn't mind another repeat score, but I'd prefer not to give up any goals and especially not to be behind at any point.
Ghana will be tough, but I hope we continue to improve and handle this game well.

hey!
the only time Ghana played Brasil at senior level was in 1996. It was 8:2. still that Ghana squad was one of the weakest in history, with Yeboah the only strong point of the team.
on youth level they have beaten brasil on several occasions.
EDIT: On senior level in competitive events Brasil HAS been beaten by African sides, i.e. Confederation Cup 2003 with a beautiful Eto'o goal. And this with supposedly the best Brasil team of a generation. And with Cameroon actually dominating play. (Two years earlier it was the other way around with Cameroon losing). In 2001 and 2003 Brasil and Cameroon were at their height. Once Brasil won, once Cameroon.
EDIT2: This Ghanain side (almost a carbon copy of the 2001 youth team) beat Brasil youth team at 2001 FIFA World Youth 2:1. And actually in youth competition it is actually THE AFRICAN TEAMS with the best competetive record against Brasil.
EDIT3: Olympic level - African sides that beat BrasiL:
South Africa 2000 3:1
Cameroon 2000 2:1
Nigeria 1996 4:3
Truth be told Brasil HAS NOT had a good record against African teams in the last 6 years AT ANY LEVEL. Yes, they have won as much as they have lost, but it would be a bad idea to undderate them.
BRASIL ARE CLEAR FAVOURITES AND GHANA ONLY HAS AN OUTSIDE CHANCE!
They must play like they played with the Czech Rep.
- they control midfield
- they find the target on a more regular basis and stop squandering chances
- they stop making childish errors in the back (all three lost goals came from VERY CHILDISH errors).

Below Brasilian world cup history against African teams:
1972 Brasil -Zair 3:0 ( Jairzinho 12', Rivelino 66', Valdomiro 79')
Brasil convingly wins with a very weak African side which in the previous match got whooped 9:0.
1986 Brasil - Algeria 1:0 (67 min. Careca)
Algeria actually had a good team back then and held on for quite a while and was unlucky not to draw.
1994 Brasil - Cameroon 3:0 (Romário 39', Márcio Santos 65', Bebeto 73')
Solid win against an aging Cameroon side which was nothing in comparison with the 1990 squad.
1998 Brasil - Morocco 3:0 (Ronaldo 9', Rivaldo 45'+2', Bebeto 50')
Solid win against a very good and quite unlucky not to qualify to the 1/8 Moroccan team.
That's it... no more. Four wins so far for Brasil. Will they make it a fifth?

Brasil------------- -Ghana friendly 1982:
Goals:
Brasil:
Zé Maria 16', Sávio 47', André Luiz 52', Marques 55', Rivaldo 78', Sávio 88', Juninho Paulista 92', Marques 93'
Ghana: Yeboah 49', Addo 83'
Brasil squad:
Dida; Zé Maria; Aldair; Alexandre Lopes; André Luiz; Flávio Conceição; Amaral; Rivaldo; Juninho Paulista; Luizão; Sávio
Ghana squad:
Kingston; Samuel Kuffour; Ampah; Baidoo; Nettey; Yahaya; Aboagye; Duah; Lamptey; Osmanu; Yeboah
Only Dida, Kingston and Sammy Kuffour remain from those teams. Fromthe Ghanain team the only players that actually did anything at club level were Yeboah, Lamptey and Kuffour. The rest were 2/3/4 league players
(which must all put this in perspective).
