Did the way Ivory Coast in this WC play (they played great by the way) put them over teams like Nigeria, Cameroon, Senegal, etc. I think this continent has great potential.

African team play great and the Ivory Coast were an example of this but these nations haven't been getting the results. Ghana is now Africa's only hope for an African nation to go into the second round. The next World Cup is in Africa so if they all put in a mediocre performance again, FIFA really needs to take a spot off them because they don't need any freebies.

A follow up question, whos Africas best Forward, Midfielder, Defender, and Goalie?

Well Europeans Serbia-Montenegro didn't get results against Holland or Argentina either. And Ivory Coast beat them. And Ghana spanked the supposed #2 team in the world. After all, it was a European team that lost 6-0 (and one that rolled through qualification at that). Let's take a spot away from them first.

After all, one group had Cameroon (co-record African champions and record African WC qualifiers) and Egypt (also co-record African champions) and they both failed to qualify. Everyone expected either Senegal or Mali to qualify from their group and it was Togo instead. I think this shows the difficulty of qualifying from Africa. Having only one from each group qualify seriously limits the margin for error. It's harder to get results even in smaller footballing countries like Guinea or Angola than most people realize, certainly harder than in Malta or Andorra. African countries will have a big advantage in 2010 when the tournament's in South Africa, just as European teams always do better when it's in Europe.

Forward: Eto'o
Midfielder: Essien
Defender: Trabelsi or Toure
Goalie: I'd say Kingson of Ghana but I don't know much about African goalies. On an all-time scale, Thomas N'Kono of Cameroon was probably the best.

Ivory Coast is certainly on the very very top of Africa's elite. They're better than Ghana, it's just the groups that made the difference.
I am now a bit shocked that Cameroon, who defeated Ivory Coast TWICE, had not managed to go through. Cameroon is definitely one of the strongest, if not the strongest, team in Africa right now. I mean, it is just stunning how any team can beat Ivory Coast twice. I have to tune into the African Nations Cup to keep an eye on Ivory Coast.

Ivory Coast are the strongest at the moment IMO. There isn't much between them and Cameroon though, in the case of the Nations Cup it was only an epic penalty shoot-out between them. Ghana, Senegal and Nigeria are the next best teams with Egypt and Tunisia not far behind.
South Africa are awful at the moment and must improve for 2010. I reckon Nigeria will be very strong in 4 years time.

Nigeria has some very promising young players coming through, although someone will have to take the responsibility left by Jay-Jay Okocha. Maybe Obi-Mikel is the man to do it, but he'll still be awfully young come the next world cup.

Do you guys think that the future is bright for this continent? (how good could they potentially be?) and in terms of pumping out premier players which continent is the best Africa, N. America or Asia?

Kameni plays for Espanyol just so you know.I forgot about him. He does make the occasional blunder but when he is on form, he is a major part in Espanyol's wins.
