Reyna today: "couple new players" vs. Ghana

At the end of today's podcast / press conference, Reyna says of the Ghana lineup: "there's going to be a couple new players playing." Pretty clear from the context that he's talking about (a) starters and (b) guys who haven't played yet (i.e., not Conrad). Makes me think we are looking at EJ and one other new player. If in fact the other player is truly new it is likely Olsen. Also at the press conference, Bruce says they haven't decided what they will do with JOB. Given that Reyna knew the starting lineup, I infer that it doesn't include JOB.

I'm going to assume with my fingers crossed that Reyna wasn't talking about Olsen. All Arena has talked about concerning Ghana for six months now is their team speed, and putting one of your slowest guys out there is obviously not the smartest idea.

Besides, the "b" part of your interpretation of the remark doesn't work if you're saying he's talking about Johnson and Olsen. Johnson has played in this tournament (second half vs. CZE.) My conjecture would be that he's just talking about Conrad and possibly Johnson starting for the first time in this tourney.

Has anyone considered that JOB might actually be ok and all this talk about him not "feeling right" is a bit of gamesmanship?

I think we see Johnson up top for sure. I would like to see JOB in the midfield with Donovan, Dempsey and Reyna.

The other day in an interview with ESPN, Arena said Conrad would start and that no decision had been made yet on who would start in the midfield in place of Mastroeni. Of course, it's possible Bruce has changed his mind since then.

I think that he'd have had about as much success going to his left every time against Italy and the Czechs as our other strikers have had doing whatever it is they do.
