"Facing Brazil, well, you know the Ghana Black Stars have a nickname, the Brazil of Africa," he said. "So that will be a great match, two Brazilians."

Just one of a few intersting quotes from today's press conferences. I guess they already have the USA match in the bag???????????????????

Ghana has already beaten the U. S. (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=372018&root=worldcup&cc=5901&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab2pos1) . . . in their own minds.

Ghana fans on Bigsoccer: I am SO looking forward to this game. Signed, a US fan.

""We're going to miss them -- they are good players -- but all the guys are ready to die for the nation," Appiah said. "They all want to play." "

true world cup spirit :)

Wow, we can only hope they come out with such overconfidence. If we're hungry enough, we can take advantage.

Please list the Ghana players, with their clubs, starting with Essien and Appiah. Let me know who the 7th best player plays for. That's the best response to "we have better players."

People shouldn't get caught up in club teams. Chelsea ain't
playing in this tourney.

I've heard US players talk like that; it's normal. But sometimes not realistic. If you don't have confidence you'll get that deer in the headlights look.

You saw it here first: US 3, Ghana 1

If we get the first one we'll score 5.

Mexico were rather confident before we played at WC 2002. Words mean nothing.

Kinda like Costa Rica is the "Brazil of CONCACAF"?

A lot play in Europe, a couple play in Isreal.

Edit: I'm seeing folks who play in Germany, France, Turkey, Italy and Denmark. Only 2 or 3 play in Ghana and about the same are based in Isreal.

the czech republic the 2nd best team in the world????
you wouldn't think the team ranked 42nd would put a lot stock in the FIFA World Rankings but I guess they don't feel they're all that good. don't understand why they feel that beating the 5th best team in the world will be such a breeze ;)

They're actually very good, lot's of speed, good fitness and actually have a chance to win the group -- more than I can say for our boys.

We had better find an offense tomorrow. And hope the Italians do the same.

Ghana's cocky? Impossible! We're the one's that are cocky ... or so they say at GhanaWeb.com (http://discussions.ghanaweb.com/viewforum.php?f=2&sid=0efc8ea909973196d70b1563ccb2239c) ... ;)

Wow...I don't remember a team at this level so blatantly disrespecting an opponent.

I have a friends who claims that Ethiopia is the Brazil of Africa. I have also heard of teams called the Brazil of Central Europe and the Brazil of the Caucases.

Several of them will gather in town squares wearing Lance Armstrong-type bracelets that say, "Black Stars 2006, Believe It -- Believe It!"

They are wearing bracelets guys. It's over. We have no chance. My analysis shows that no bracelet-wearing country has ever lost to a non-bracelet-wearing country. :(

No disrespect for Ghana and their players, as they do have a couple superb players, but maybe someone should remind them that this is their FIRST trip to the World Cup, and they have won ONE game ever in the World Cup.
