2nd round match. Ecuador have looked pretty good so far, they rested about 5 players against Germany so they'll be ready. This will be tougher than some people think. It's straight knockout from here.

Thoughts?

You gave away the next fixture thereby implying the result.

I'm not debating this, it was a spoiler. Mods need to be ultra aware of it (to help those muppets who go on BS before watching a delayed or taped game  )

Good thing we sucked defensively today, at least we can address it during the few days between games.
I wonder if Sven will dare start the same line-up as today, when we played by far the best half of the tournament.

So... the road to the final is as follows:

1/8 - Ecuador
1/4 - Portugal or Holland
1/2 - Brazil/Italy/Spain

Actually, imo the draw is very good. We should be able to get past Ecuador, neither Portugal nor Holland looked particularly good so far, and Brazil looks beatable (they'll probably play better in the knockout rounds though). Avoiding Germany and Argentina.

i won't be surprised to lose to ecuador. down to zero world cup experienced strikers, a 70% rooney, the bean pole and theo. sven's gamble is going to fail in that regard unless walcott is some sort of absolute genius.

i don't fancy our chances against holland or brazil. spain, portugal and italy are all 50/50; we could beat them just as easily as they could beat us.

It's all gonna come together nicely..... Just think. Wouldn't you rather have England getting better game by game, than starting out on fire and fizzling? England have yet to play up to their top potential, and that is coming with every game.. BELIEVE, don't hesitate for one second, BELIEVE!!

It Will Be Over By Halftime, Ecuador Looked Fine, But Think About This, Who Did They Play In The First Two Games???????

Well, given the age old saying of you can only beat whats put out in front of you...;)

Still, they were handled quite easily by Germany today. Not too sure how much stock I would put in that though, given all the players they rested.

It'll be a tough game.
I think the key will be the first goal.If they score first we could be knackered.

Haven't they been playing with two up the front though?

What's he going to do?
Well, if he gets enough half chances, he'll put one of them away.
If we don't improve, he'll get those chances.

TRUE, BUT THIS TIME THE COACH KNOWS THAT HE IS PLAYING ENGLAND AND NOT COSTA RICA AND POLAND.

Actually no.

What scares me is our team.

It's the same old shit, time after time with the lot of them.

We have no leaders, both in the coaching staff and on the pitch.
We have a past his best captain and a coach that's truly dedicated t othe old Italian way of playing.

When/if we score a goal, it's all to bloody predictable what'll happen. The defensive subs come on, at the expense of our attacking players, we go into a shell and we let in a goal.
There is nobody on the pitch yelling and urging the side on to kill the game.

Great...even good...teams don't sit back when they get a goal.We actually looked decent in the first half, but, as usual, it all went to pot in the second.

Why wasn't Beckham leading the charge down the wing with the ball, urging the team on to put the game away?
Sweden, when all is said and done, weren't al lthat good. They only threatened on set pieces, not the run of play.

So, no, I don't care who they have up the front, if we don't play it won't matter a jot anyway.

We've been knackered in thsi tourney from the start with Sven and his bloody idiotic picking of the kid and his inept tactics and failing to instill some spark in Beckhams arse to lead the team on the pitch.Like a true captain.

Do you feel confident when we score that we'll go on an win the game?

WHAT YOU ARE SAYING ITS TRUE, BUT I STILL DO NOT THINK THAT ECUADOR IS GOING TO BEAT ENGLAND, MISTAKES OR NOT MISTAKES ENGLAND IS ABOVE THEM ALL THE WAY

England to win 3-1. Any other result would be considered a huge upset.
