This won't be the first meeting between some of these players. They have met twice recently on the youth team level, with Ghana winning both times.

In 1997, Ghana beat the US 1-0 in Group play at the U-20 championships, a few players from that game are on World Cup rosters. Stephen Appiah for Ghana:

In 1999, the 2010 kids faced Ghana in the third place game of the U-17 championships, losing 2-0. Razak and Essien were on Ghana's roster then. Don't know why Essien ddin't play:

Based on the results, I hope this means nothing come Thursday. I still thought it was interesting.

Does anyone remember any details about these games?

It means that Ghana has been producing quality youth for awhile. All I really remember is the scores, but I vaguely remember our butts being kicked in 1999 (based on written reports)...

Essentially the knock on Ghana has long been they are terrific at a youth level but were never able to translate that into WC success. If my memory serves the squad also won a number of African Cups so many were surprised it took the senior squad this long to make noice at the WC

So we're now 0-3 against Ghana, one loss on three different levels. LD, DMB, Gooch, Convey, Ben Olsen, Josh Wolff and John O'Brien have lost twice to Ghana....
